Our developer team is responsible for developing and maintaining our WordPress based engagement platform for a global audience. Your responsibilities will include both front-end and back-end development, creating and maintaining templates and customizations for our Learning Management, Gamification, Membership, and E-Commerce platforms to take full advantage of the capabilities of each system and ensure a seamless experience for our users across all devices. You will need to have good attention to detail and exceptional CSS and Javascript skills to ensure your work is high quality and optimized for performance. You will be supported by local team members and liaise with our international team for translations and other projects as required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Play an indispensable role in the Digital team, in back-end and front-end web development, deploying maintenance and updates, working with PHP, MYSQL, Wordpress and executing a number of globally significant IT projects for Plastic Bank;
- Carefully taking directions from Vancouver-based Head Office staff to deploy projects with accuracy and speed;
- Ensure that Plastic Bank’s digital presence provides visitors with a smooth, interactive and informative experience;
- Ensure all development is consistent with best practices for security and performance;
- Stay up to date with technology and security issues affecting Wordpress and our stack; and
- Manage content as required in conjunction with Web Master
Skills Required
- Education in web programming or web design;
- In-depth WordPress experience (5+ years), with a combination of programming skills and aesthetics;
- Expertise in front-end technologies - HTML, CSS/SCSS/SAAS and JavaScript/JQuery (5+ years);
- Experience with Node.js and Javascript Frameworks such as React and Angular;
- Experience with Google Tracking (Tag Manager and Analytics) and PHP;
- Experience with PHP Frameworks especially Laravel is a plus;
- Experience working in an agile test-driven development environment;
- Experience in working with code versioning tools - GIT (experience in multi-user environments preferred);
- Highly self-motivated and creative problem solver;
- Ability to take instructions, work independently and in a team;
- Good English communication skills;
- Experience with some or all of the following: WooCommerce, Gamipress, or LearnDash;
- Knowledge of how to interact with RESTful APIs and formats (JSON, XML);
- Knowledge of object-oriented programming concepts; and
- Passionate about reducing ocean pollution, alleviating poverty and growing Plastic Bank's mission;
