Business & Human Rights Resource Centre is an international human rights organisation working to ensure respect for human rights are at the core of companies’ business models, empower communities and workers to secure their rights, and advance accountability for corporate human rights abuse. Our Global Team, based in more than 20 countries around the world, work with a rich network of activists, unions, human rights groups, and investors. Our website and publications are available in ten languages. We work across all sectors and issues related to business and human rights, with strategic focus on the rights of workers in global supply chains, the rights of communities seeking responsible natural resource use and a just transition to zero carbon economies, and the rights of people to accountable digital technologies.
The Resource Centre has helped define the growing field of business & human rights. It has put companies in all regions on notice that their human rights conduct is being watched. It has drawn attention to corporate abuses in all countries and provided increased recognition to those companies taking positive steps to promote human rights. The Centre is widely respected for being fair, objective, and constructive in its approach to make change happen.

The Web Content & Digital Officer forms part of our global communications team working with, and reporting to, the Head of Communications. This is a small, high performing team which works to maximise the impact of the organisation’s analysis and key findings via external communications, including on our digital platform, and in the media and social media.
Job description overview:
This essential role is responsible for managing all aspects of our digital estate, including our 150,000-page website which forms the backbone of our organisation’s advocacy. The successful candidate will work with our Communications and Research teams to continuously improve the quality of the content created for the site and the overarching user experience, as well as managing the product development roadmap in partnership with our external website development agency.
KEY ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Day-to-day oversight of the Resource Centre digital action platform: Lead on the ongoing management (back and front end) of a digital platform in 10 working languages (with two more in the pipeline). Work with external developers/ consultants/ agencies with a view to continuously enhance the impact of our digital platform e.g. on feature development sprints, maintenance and updates. Advise on web analytics and prepare datasets for organisational Key Performance Indicators.
Coordinate and create digital content: Coordinate editorial responsibilities and support Global Team members to ensure maximum impact for the digital platform. Realise the platform’s full functionality, supporting the creation of innovative digital content which engages our target audiences while ensuring our website simple navigation.
Data collection and analytics: Work with the Head of Communications and project managers to devise and implement creative digital solutions to best showcase the Resource Centre’s work and analysis, including ensuring data collection is efficient, reliable and of a standard suitable for varied public consumption.
Internal digital communications: Provide support to Global Team colleagues, the Web Content & Digital Officer on the strategic use of internal digital communications tools. Support the COO [& Digital Projects Officer] regarding digital security concerns.
Line management responsibilities: The Web Content & Digital Officer will manage interns and freelance contractors as appropriate/required.
Develop and support strategy: Build on the existing mid-long term product strategy. Support the Head of Communications in implementing our organisational and communications strategy. Provide cover for the communications team, with some infrequent out of hours work.
Experience: At least 2-3 years’ experience in a digital-focused communications role, including management of a multifunctional website.
Product management: Experience managing the build, maintenance, and enhancement of complex websites. Deep knowledge of developing and using content management systems, managing product roadmaps, running agile development sprints, troubleshooting (non-code) technical issues and implementing best practice user experience.
Technological aptitude: A tech expert with proven ability to bridge the gap between technical and non-technical staff. Confidence navigating different software packages, identifying appropriate new solutions and proactively learning to apply them without support. An understanding of basic coding principles an advantage, but not required.
Content management: Experience conceiving and producing/commissioning digital content, including promotional web pages, blogs, and infographics.
Communications: Strong ability to communicate complex and sensitive information to diverse public audiences, especially through digital media. Excellent English language skills, with exemplary attention to detail.
Data, analytics and structured thinking: Approaches problems in a structured, methodical manner. Experience cleaning, manipulating, analysing and visualising data to support content production highly desirable. Advanced Excel skills essential. Proficient in producing and interpreting web analytics to report on content performance. Experience using Google’s Marketing Platform, including Analytics, Tag Manager and Data Studio.
Strategic thinking: Track record of helping to develop successful digital strategies to effect change. Experience tailoring content for diverse international audiences an asset.
Supporting the Global Team: Enthusiasm for supporting colleagues with digital communications. Experience supporting colleagues either through online training sessions, written documentation or project ideation an asset.
Team player: Experience of, and enthusiasm for, working collaboratively in diverse, multicultural environments. Experience working with colleagues remotely highly desirable.
Knowledge of human rights issues: A strong interest in international issues and familiarity with human rights issues desirable.
