We are seeking a Vice President of Corporate Development to join our team and help us achieve our ambitious growth goals for our business and the planet.
What you get to do:
As a member of the Senior Leadership Team and reporting to the Head of Strategy, Sales, & Marketing, the VP of Corporate Development will be responsible for supporting the company’s growth in various areas including strategy development and M&A. This seasoned commercial leader will be responsible for identifying, evaluating, negotiating, and ultimately closing multiple deals per year.
Additionally, the company is in the initial phase of building its corporate development team (we are small, but mighty!). We need help from a leader with experience building new teams that can partner with the Head of Strategy, Sales, & Marketing to strengthen and mature the group’s capabilities and processes.
Responsibilities include:
- Partner with the Head of Strategy, Sales, & Marketing to develop group strategy in support of Uplight’s corporate growth strategy
- Identify, evaluate, progress and close acquisitions and strategic business initiatives; given the small size of the team, we’re looking for folks with the flexibility to manage and execute across a diverse pipeline of M&A opportunities and strategic business opportunities
- Leverage internal and external resources, including regular interaction with the company’s investors, to identify and create a pipeline of potential opportunities and M&A targets that align with business objectives
- Engage with leaders of acquisition targets to establish and maintain relationships and assess mutual interest
- Lead the development of the business case or investment approval and present recommendations to company leadership and Board of Directors
- Manage cross-functional deal teams in the completion of due diligence (finance, product, engineering, legal, people, etc.)
- Work alongside legal and finance in negotiation and execution of relevant transaction agreements
- Partner with M&A Integration Director to effectively plan post-closing integration and implementation
- Report out regularly to Uplight executive leadership and the Board of Directors on pipeline, including target prospecting and status of live deal
- Travel expected, most likely <20% of time
What you bring to Uplight:
- An unrelenting passion for closing deals and delivering results
- 10+ years of relevant work experience in corporate development/strategy, investment banking, private equity/venture capital, and/or strategy consulting
- Experience in the energy sector with a focus on clean energy, energy transition, and/or decarbonization
- Direct experience leading the execution of M&A and/or complex deals
- Experience leading cross-functional teams in end to end deal execution
- Demonstrated track record of achievement in fast paced, hyper growth environment
- Desire to work independent of constant direction from leadership
- Ability to form your own perspective and deliver a fact-based, data drive, supportable recommendation to executive and Board level leaders
- Impeccable attention to detail
- Superb analytical skills
- Excellent ability to communicate with all levels of the organization
- Strong financial acumen and ability to communicate financial drivers of a transaction
- Alignment with Uplight’s mission and corporate values
- Educational background in finance, economics, engineering, and/or accounting; bachelor’s degree required

Salary range: $180,000 - $225,000 USD
In accordance with the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, the approximate annual base compensation range is listed above. The actual offer, reflecting the total compensation package and benefits, will be determined by a number of factors including the applicant's experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity among our team.
