Kopila Valley Sewa Samaj is a non-profitable NGO registered in Surkhet, Nepal to provide support for children and families in our community. Our programs include a residential children’s home, women’s empowerment center, sustainability, school, health and wellness, and family development. We provide our students a free education, educational materials, health treatment and medicine, counseling, and a place to live. With our innovative future program, we strive to provide our children with career guidance, and scholarships for further studies. We do this with our funding partner BlinkNow Foundation and in close ties with the local government and communities.
Sustainability is one of our foundational values. We aim to embed a culture of sustainability in the way we work, live, and teach. With our sustainability program, we strive to provide experiential learning opportunities to children, promote organic farming practices, nature conservation, and waste management.
Position Summary– Trainee- Agriculture/Sustainability
Kopila Valley Sewa Samaj is looking for a Trainee to perform various gardening and agro-farming activities. With the aim of developing the capacity of fresh growing youth in the development sector. KVSS intends to provide the opportunity to work and learn with an experienced team member. The trainee should have patience and passion for working with children and disadvantaged groups. The Trainee will support for promotion of regenerative and resilient agriculture based on the values of permaculture. Under the supervision of Sustainability Coordinator Trainee will provide support to sustainability team in planning and implementation of regenerative agriculture practices and also support to gardening teacher.
In this context KVSS invites applications for the traineeship with the following details. This is a one year program to develop local human resources, so applicant's from Karnali province are encouraged.
Work Location: Birendranagar-1, Surkhet, Nepal
Reporting to: Sustainability Coordinator/Agriculture Technician
Number: 2 number
Contract: One year's full-time position
Benefits: Monthly stipend allowance, festival allowance, On-site meals
Nationality: All Nepali citizens, local residence of Karnali province is preferred.

Must Have:
1.Education: Minimum JT/JTA, I.sc Ag, Diploma in agriculture or any other relevant discipline
2.Experience: Freshers are encouraged to apply, 1 year of related experience preferred.
3.Language: A good communicator, and fluent in English and Nepali
4. Skills and Abilities: Commitment, positive attitude towards children and communities, have clear personal career plan, self-motivated and learning attitudes, willing to commit on Kopila Valley’s vision, mission, Goals. Good on using Microsoft Office tools, software, & email.
The Main Responsibilities:
Detailed Responsibilities
1. Support to the program team in implementation of regenerative Agriculture farming activities.
Provide constant support in planning and implementation of permaculture based farming activities.
Review the Annual Agriculture Development Plan, review the seasonal crop calendar for our farm, prepare a monthly plan and weekly plan in support of the sustainability coordinator and agriculture technician and plan the activities accordingly and assist in implementing it.
Coordinate for sourcing the required materials specially the quality seeds & seedlings and other inputs on time.
Support our gardening teacher in gardening class.
Make sure the agricultural equipment are at the right place after its use.
Support to strengthen PGS farmers group in dealing with disease and pest management and ensure PGS certification
Support to keep track of production details and cost benefit analysis.
Submit monthly plans and required reports on pre-agreed timeline
Implement the IPM technique and other innovative regenerative techniques to address disease and pest management.
Support to track the status of the animal farm at school, work in the garden.
Support Sustainability team in Education for Sustainability (EFS) activities including club activities.
Coordinate with Sustainability Coordinator to arrange relevant training to the agriculture team at least once per month.
Research about the innovative techniques on regenerative agriculture and implement in the field.
2. Support to the program team for data entry and documentation.
