Position Overview:
Rare is seeking an exceptional university student to join our Global Development team, based in Berlin, on a part-time basis through the Werkstudent Program.

The selected candidate will be hired as a local student in Germany and must have active work authorization. This student worker will have the opportunity to work alongside colleagues from around the world to support Rare's public fundraising, policy and international engagement efforts. As part of the Global Development team, the student will work closely with both the Fundraising and Policy & Partnerships teams and will perform a range of tasks related to team management and global event coordination, as well as other organization-wide activities across all of the countries where Rare works.

Essential Functions:

Team Management

  • Plan, organize and facilitate weekly team meetings
  • Maintain a running list of important discussion topics and work with the team to prioritize them
  • Plan and organize team events (virtual and in-person meetings, retreats, etc.) as needed (agendas, logistics, etc.)
  • Coordinate the collection of information for and publish weekly team report
  • Maintain and update team dashboards and other team resources (develop new ones as needed)
  • Support the VP, Global Development, Senior Director, Fundraising and other team members with special projects as needed
  • Evaluate and (as needed) coordinate responses to info@rare.com requests for the Global Development team
  • Complete timesheet and expense reporting for the Senior Director, Fundraising and Vice President of, Global Development

Global Events

  • Maintain a calendar of upcoming global events and forums that are relevant to Rare's work
  • Conduct assigned research on upcoming global events (e.g., UN conferences)
  • Coordinate logistics for global events that Rare will attend such as staff travel plans, lodging arrangements, local transportation, visas, etc.
  • Draft and distribute periodic updates to key staff involved in upcoming global events in order to keep Rare staff aligned on evolving plans
  • Coordinate with Rare's Salesforce Administrator to leverage Salesforce in support of event management as needed

Working Hours:
Work a maximum of 20 hours per week during lecture period and full-time up to 37.5 hours upon agreement during lecture free periods. Wages are 18 EUR per hour. Working hours can be flexible; however, candidates will ideally be available to work during at least two afternoons per week in order to handle tasks and collaboration with USA-based staff in earlier time zones.

Qualifications:

  • A student enrolled in a full-time Bachelor or Master's (or equivalent) degree program in Berlin, Germany in International Development, Climate Change or related fields
  • Previous internships or working student programs are desirable, but are not required
  • Experience working for non-profit organizations is desirable, but is not required
  • Experience in team management and/or event planning is desirable, but is not required
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate team efforts and/or projects
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written) and ability to work effectively
  • Well organized and able to adhere to deadlines
  • Fluency in English required (Rare's working language is English)
