GVI is an international multi-award-winning social enterprise. We offer conservation and community development programs in 13 countries, all aligned to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, and led by our teams and experts from the communities we operate in.

Working at GVI is fast-paced and fun. We value passion, authenticity and innovation, and we treat our stakeholders with compassion and respect.

About the role

GVI is looking for a highly personable, proactive, capable HR and recruitment professional to join our People Team. This is an incredible opportunity for someone passionate about HR and recruitment, but who is also keen to work for a global, purpose-driven organization on a mission to make a positive impact around the world!

The People Team is currently a multifaceted team of two, who take care of everything people related across our global team including HR, recruitment, onboarding, office management, well-being, training, development, and ongoing engagement. This role will be dynamic and fast-paced, with no two days alike, and will demand the ability to multitask, innovate and be highly flexible.

Our People Team is currently based in Cape Town, as part of the Central Support office, however, is currently working predominantly remotely, therefore this role has the ability to be based anywhere in South Africa.

Role and responsibilities:

  • Full life cycle recruitment of varying global roles. This includes: writing and posting job ads, screening CVs, doing first interviews, managing the candidate experience, reference checking, and contracting
  • Ensuring our Applicant Tracking System and HR database is up to date and organized (filing/auditing/pulling reports, etc.)
  • Assisting with onboarding new starters: coordination and documentation
  • Assisting with traditional HR administrative duties where necessary (compliance, performance management, administration, etc.)
  • Assisting with ad hoc office management duties when applicable
  • Assisting with, and contributing to, ongoing engagement, training and development initiatives

About you

If you are ambitious, purpose-driven, and you have a great sense of humour,  we want to meet you. As an organisation, we know that welcoming a broad range of people with unique identities makes us a more powerful workforce and we are committed to evolving our diversity, equity and inclusion practice.

Personal attributes:

  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written) with the ability to connect with candidates and team members across the globe
  • Effective team player with a growth mindset, and a strong desire to help people
  • Technologically savvy - with the ability to manage job ads across different digital platforms as well as learn new applications and software
  • High sense of urgency, with the ability to multitask, prioritize and organize yourself effectively
  • Flexible, adaptable self-starter who is proactive and always open to innovating and trying something new

Professional skills and experience:

  • 2-4 years of recruitment experience (in any industry)
  • HR educational background and/or relevant experience in South Africa
  • Exceptional command of the English language
  • Legally able to work in SA (citizen, resident or long-term visa)

Benefits

We’re not interested in empty perks like having a coffee culture. We do have coffee – if you join our central team in Cape Town, you could find yourself roped into coffee and snack challenges if you visit the office, but you could just as easily be taking your morning coffee at Roots cafe, high in the mountains of northern Thailand if you work on a base. Here’s what our global team enjoys:

  • Social fund
  • Training fund
  • Half days on the first Friday of each quarter
  • Collaborative, flexible culture
  • Transparency – hear directly from the CEO consistently
  • We laugh a lot, genuinely care about and support each other, and do the occasional dress-up

Please send your CV, LinkedIn link along with a cover letter stating why you feel you would be best suited to this position at GVI.

Please note: We will do our utmost to respond to all applicants, however, given the large volume of applications we receive, this isn't always possible. If you do not hear back from us within three-four weeks, please take it that on this occasion your application was unsuccessful.
