The Role: Xylem seeks to hire an intern for Summer 2023, as a member of the Supply Chain/Buyer organization. The ideal candidate will have the desire to learn the procurement activities to ensure that materials are available to meet customer demand. To learn how to develop partnerships and relationships with key suppliers to maximize value (optimal price, delivery cycle, quality, and service/technical support) for our organization.  Works cross functionally (internal/external to YSI) to achieve the Operations Team’s delivery, cost and quality objectives. We want someone who:

  • Is interested in understanding how a product performs and the impact that manufacturing processes, supply chain, and operations have on our business performance
  • Can manage purchase orders with suppliers based on material requirements driven by customer
  • orders or forecasts.
  • Support supplier relationships.
  • Place, track and expedite purchase orders as required.
  • Make certain that purchasing documents are properly completed and verify that the terms and conditions of purchases are appropriate.
  • Assure that departmental records are maintained.
  • Place orders for products and follow up with expedite/de-expedite actions as required.
  • Is interested in monitoring process yields and cost, recommending and implementing quality improvements based on these metrics
  • Wants to participate in the development and execution of new and improved manufacturing/business processes.
  • Has a strong sense of ownership and drive
  • Wants to learn from experienced buyers, engineers, and managers
  • Has excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Has strong customer focus

Minimum Requirements:

  • Attending an accredited University studying toward a Bachelor of Science degree in Operations or Supply Chain.
  • Minimum rising junior in standing
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Basic knowledge of test methodologies and statistical tools used to solve problems
  • Willingness to work in a manufacturing environment
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing, orally with both local and remote sites.
  • Strong interpersonal and persuasive skills required.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment of engineers to meet aggressive goals and high-quality standards
  • Committed to excellence in all aspects of operational performance.
  • Ability to work effectively with all levels of employees and management.
  • Professional image projection to suppliers.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Basic computer skills – Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, data entry.
  • Must be able to understand and utilize MRP II theory and applications.
  • Ability to communicate specific material requirements effectively to the supplier.
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced, dynamic, and high visibility environment.

Physical Demands/Work Environment:

  • Regularly required to sit or stand, reach, bend and move about the facility
  • Office: Standard office equipment; work usually performed in an office setting free from any disagreeable elements.
  • Standard weekly job hours: 40 hours
  • Additional hours may be necessary depending on manufacturing workload, schedule and business requirements.
