NRDC is a non-profit environmental advocacy organization. We use law, science, and the support of 3.1 million members and online activists to protect the planet's wildlife and wild places and to ensure the rights of all people to clean air, clean water, and healthy communities. NRDC is seeking a Spanish-language Media Intern to work with the Media team associated with our Chicago office.

Position Summary

The media team manages media operations for the organization developing key relationships with press and securing top tier media hits. The Spanish-language media intern will work with the media team to help develop a new Spanish language press outreach strategy plan that outlines issues, resources, and news hooks the organization may use to reach Spanish media publications. This role requires an energetic, dedicated, independent, detail-oriented and Spanish speaking person who can manage multiple tasks. This individual is a team player with an entrepreneurial spirit, willingness to learn and ability to manage multiple tasks while adapting to shifting priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Research and monitor media outlets and reporters
  • Develop ideas and coordinate team on outreach strategy plan
  • Assist in internal and community partner outreach

Qualifications

  • Conversational fluency in Spanish
  • The candidate should have an interest in Spanish language media and the desire to learn more about media outreach, community organizations outreach, and media work in general
  • Outstanding organizational skills, the ability to multi-task, set priorities, follow institutional procedures and perform undirected work
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English
  • Close attention to detail and follow through on tasks
  • Works collaboratively with colleagues to achieve project goals
  • Ability to meet deadlines
  • Proficiency with office technologies including MS Office Suite and Google Suite
  • Strong commitment and passion for NRDC’s mission and core values .

This position is a paid internship with a stipend of $6,000 paid bi-weekly over the course of 10 weeks.

The incumbent will not qualify as an employee, fellow, volunteer, or independent contractor of NRDC, nor will the incumbent be guaranteed employment at the end of the internship term.

Our offices are open and we are operating in a hybrid model. We offer NRDCers flexibility, and we encourage them to come into the office and spend meaningful time there in collaboration with their colleagues. We call this purposeful presence.
