Your opportunity

Dillon’s Transportation & Facilities technical group is looking for a Civil Engineering Technologist Co-op student (Structural discipline) to join our multidisciplinary team of professionals. You will have the opportunity to work on new and exciting projects while gaining valuable exposure and experience in the consulting engineering industry.

This position is available in our Winnipeg office. We offer a variety of flexible work options to help balance the competing demands of work and personal life.

Responsibilities

What your day will look like

Technical Work (90%)

  • Collaboration with multidisciplinary team members including engineers, planners, scientists, and technical and administrative support staff
  • Coordination and completion of field assessments and information gathering
  • Preparation of preliminary drawings/sketches/notes for projects, redlines and plans for submittals
  • Assistance to project managers and engineers in the functional and detailed design of transportation structures and roadways
  • Preparation of construction drawings/documents
  • Coordination and completion of drafting and CAD for variety of project types
  • Application of 2D and 3D CAD software such as AutoCAD and other specialty programs to produce design drawings
  • Coordination and completion of field observation and management of site documentation during construction
  • Assistance with contract administration tasks including construction observation, shop drawing review, contractor submittal review, progress payment preparation, and responding to requests for information
  • Business travel to other Dillon offices upon request

Qualifications

What you will need to succeed

Education

  • Currently enrolled in a Diploma program from an accredited Architectural or Engineering Technologist Program, or equivalent.

Experience

  • Strong verbal and written communication, organization and interpersonal skills
  • Highly organized and detail oriented
  • Proficient use of current AutoCAD and/or Revit software is considered an asset
  • Knowledge of relevant municipal/provincial/industry engineering standards, specifications, and regulatory requirements is considered an asset
  • Understanding of the range of project design and implementation activities including development of design drawings and reports, contract document preparation, tendering, and contract administration is considered an asset
