Job Summary

The Standards, Senior Technical Manager will be responsible for managing the execution of technical reviews, interpretation, research, and other related needs of Textile Exchange standards. The Senior Technical Manager will manage a team of experts in content areas related to Textile Exchange's standards. This role will require a deep understanding of standards systems and the ability to bring together detailed and nuanced concepts and topics into the world of standards development and interpretation. This will involve ensuring the execution of daily activities such as planning workstreams, writing standards and associated documents, participating in internal and external meetings, and supporting several moving projects within the standards team and cross-departmentally.

The ideal candidate is curious, self-motivated, helpful, organized, and works well with tight turnaround times. Success in the role will depend on attention to detail, a high degree of organization, resourcefulness, and professionalism. Strong written and verbal communication skills in English are a must.

Like all roles at Textile Exchange, the role will be primarily home-based, though there is a need to work during hours that overlap with North American time zones. Textile Exchange is US-based, remote-working organization with a global team.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage a team of experts to support the technical development and ongoing interpretation of Textile Exchange standards.
  • Ensure that standards development, revisions, and all accompanying guidance are informed by best-available science and research, in coordination with the standards development team.
  • Design and maintain a robust system to research technical topics within the standards as well as evaluate and record interpretations, and standards decisions.
  • Organize responsive interpretations as scenarios are represented by standards users, in coordination with the Assurance team.
  • Collaborate with the Assurance team to inform certification body calibration and training on standards topics in line with the intended outcomes of the standards system.
  • Serve as liaison with external experts and internal organizational experts (for example, Climate+ Impact and Fibers & Materials teams) to ensure well-rounded standard content.
  • Identify opportunities for long-term improvements to standards systems based on monitoring and evaluation as well as advancements in the field.
  • Identify opportunities and engage with external programs and tools to strengthen our standards system and extend our reach, including support on the development of a standards benchmarking and recognition program.
  • Support identification of potential risks to our system and implementation of mitigation measures.
  • Liaise with Stakeholder Engagement and Communications to support external communications, including feedback for quality and accuracy of information.
  • Support communication on relevant issues for the Leadership team, Executive team, and Board, as needed.
  • Represent Textile Exchange Standards externally in key stakeholder meetings and speaking events, as needed.

Minimum Experience and Qualifications

  • Proven experience managing a team.
  • Experience working within a global environment and cultural diversity.
  • 5+ years of experience within a voluntary sustainability standards system.
  • Excellent computer skills including advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, & Word and the ability to quickly learn new systems.
  • A driven individual with a strong work ethic and high degree of autonomy. Self-starting and proactive.
  • Highly attentive to detail with strong organizational and planning skills.
  • Able to hit the ground running – you will need to have experience working in a fast-paced and results-driven environment.
  • Motivated, energetic, determined, and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Highly literate, with excellent written and grammatical skills in English.
  • Able to produce high quality work across all forms of media.
  • Honest, professional, responsible, discreet, and able to act with the utmost confidence at all times.

Preferred Experience and Qualifications

  • Experience with Salesforce.
  • Experience with Microsoft 365 products.
  • Knowledge of or experience with textiles, agriculture, supply chains, or raw material resource management.
  • Experience with ISEAL codes of conduct.
  • Previous experience working in an international context.

Employment Package

  • Reports to: Standards and Assurance, Senior Director
  • Full Time Position, 40 Hours a Week
  • Location: Virtual/Remote, preferred to be based in North America.
  • Salary Range: $85,000-$105,000 USD dependent on experience
  • Start Date: As Soon as Available
  • Our offers for salary and benefits are dependent on the region of the final candidate. We post most positions based on a US-based Team member but final offers are done in alignment with the final candidate's permanent residence and in line with Textile Exchange's regional employment package.
