Staff Restoration Ecologist

About the opportunity

SWCA Environmental Consultants' Ecological Restoration Group is looking for additional team members to assist during our Spring 2023 field season. This immediate need is for temporary work through June 2023 with the opportunity for permanent status thereafter. The position may require occasional travel in order to complete restoration projects throughout the Northeast. Should the opportunity for permanent status be available and the chosen candidate meet expectations, invasive plant management (herbicide application) will be a requirement of the position (requiring licenses in at least MA and CT).

What you will accomplish

• Work in a team setting to complete restoration plantings, bank/soil stabilization, trail construction, wetland enhancement, vegetation monitoring, and data collection
• Effectively communicate with other project team members and follow instructions well
• Implement and complete tasks and responsibilities delegated by Field Supervisors
• Take positive action and accountability for assigned work
• Perform herbicide application for invasive plant management, as-needed

Experience and qualifications for success

Required:

• Minimum of 1 year of experience in landscaping or ecological restoration construction
• Must hold a valid driver's license
• Ability to perform herbicide application
• Strong interpersonal skills
• Ability to problem-solve and be self-motivated
• Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
• Effectively adapt to shifting priorities, demands, and timelines through analytical and problem-solving capabilities
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and work in extreme weather conditions
• OSHA 10-hour certification

Preferred:

• 2-3 years direct work experience in a landscaping/construction capacity.
• Previous herbicide application experience
• MA Certified Pesticide Applicators license
• Previous stormwater management experience with a focus on eroision and sediment control inspection
• OSHA 40-hour certification
