Staff Environmental Scientist

About the opportunity

SWCA Environmental Consultants is seeking a Staff Environmental Scientist to support our Pensacola, Florida office and projects located within the SE Region.  We are seeking a candidate who is looking to develop or continue a long-term consulting career that combines high-level technical expertise and strong writing skills. This individual will support varied projects in the region, including disaster recovery NEPA support, renewable energy projects, and oil and gas projects. Responsibilities may include writing technical reports, preparing NEPA documents, participating in field surveys, natural resource planning, and coordinating with a multi-disciplinary team.

This is a permanent, hourly, full-time, regular position, reporting to one of SWCA’s Project Managers reporting to our Pensacola, FL office. The position is available for well-qualified distributed candidates located in the southeastern United States.  Qualified candidates in Florida, Tenessee and Georgia are strongly encouraged to apply.

What you will accomplish

  • Prepare technical reports and permit applications related to NEPA, CWA, ESA, state & local regulations, and other resource planning/permitting relevant in the Southeastern United States.
  • As needed, support natural resource survey efforts in the region with travel up to 25% of the time.
  • Take initiative and resolve issues in an independent manner.
  • Work closely with SWCA’s other resource scientists, planners, on natural and cultural resource projects throughout the company.

Experience and qualifications for success

Required

  • Subject matter knowledge equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in an environmental related discipline, such as: environmental studies, environmental science, biology, ecology.
  • Experience supporting NEPA documents such as Environmental Assessments or Categorical Exclusions; as normally aquired from two to three (2-3) years of industry related experience.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with MS Office products.

Preferred

  • Experience in technical writing, including preparation of NEPA documents, Critical Issues Analysis, and survey reports.
  • Experience in disaster recovery projects, including HUD's 24 CFR Part 58.
  • Experience in energy development projects, including renewable energy and oil and gas projects.
  • Experience in natural resource surveys, including with flora & fauna in the Southeastern United States.
  • Ability to work as member of a team and independently to make decisions and complete tasks in the most effective manner.
