Staff Accountant
JOB ANNOUNCEMENT
Sacred Heart Community Service (SHCS), located in San José, CA, is looking for a Full-Time, Exempt, Staff Accountant in the Finance Department. This individual must be a self-starter, as well as organized and detail-oriented with strong verbal and written communication skills and have an ability to work flexibly. Additionally, the individual must have a passion for our mission—to change lives and impact poverty. For more than 58 years, SHCS has been one of the leading institutions in addressing poverty in Santa Clara County through a strategy that combines addressing the consequences of poverty through impactful programs while building power with people to push for systemic change.
Position Summary
The Staff Accountant will work in all areas of accounting but with an emphasis on Accounts Payable. Accounts Receivable, Payroll, and other General Ledger activities will be performed as needed. The ability to evaluate processes and suggest process improvements is expected. Deltek Costpoint, Excel and bill.com are the primary tools used in the performance of job responsibilities. This individual is expected to learn the Chart of Accounts and properly code transactions, review all reimbursement paperwork submitted to ensure compliance with internal policies and procedures, correctly enter journal entries, prepare account reconciliations as needed, problem solve, and follow up with vendors and others.
Description of Duties
General Accounting (90-95%)
● All aspects of Accounts Payable including coding, compliance with internal policies and procedures, vendor maintenance in Deltek Costpoint, check writing, reconciliation of vendor statements, and filing.
● Administration of Agency credit cards including printing statements, cancelling cards, ordering new cards, and entry of transactions into Deltek Costpoint.
● Monitoring Agency cash balances including updating a daily Cash Balance spreadsheet, initiating transfers between accounts, and recording the transfers in Deltek Costpoint.
● Entering bank deposits into Deltek Costpoint.
● Support for the annual audit through preparation of schedules, reconciliations, filing, and photocopying documents.
● Support Housing Department through printing checks for members.
● Backup ADP Payroll
● Account reconciliations as assigned
● Special projects as needed.
Other (5%-10%)
● Supports continuous learning, evaluation, and improvement within the Finance team.
● Supports the planning of and participates in agency-wide programs, events, and outreach efforts.
● Supports the planning of and attends staff meetings, retreats, and other team and agency events.
● Performs other duties as assigned.
POSITON REQUIREMENTS

● Three to five years of accounting experience.
● Excellent organizational skills and proven ability to meet deadlines.
● Ability to multi-task and shift priorities in a fast-paced environment.
● Ability to work in a team and follow direction.
● Flexible, compassionate, and supportive attitude.
● Excellent computer skills including competence using Microsoft Office programs – with a particular emphasis on Excel.
● Experience with Deltek Costpoint greatly preferred.
● The position requires computer use for up to 8 hours per day.
● Must complete a DMV and complete background check, and qualify to be insured under SHCS driving policy.
REQUIRED
● Proof of full vaccination against COVID-19.
Preferred
● Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related discipline.
● Bilingual – Spanish, Vietnamese, Chinese – highly desirable.
The Staff Accountant position is exempt, full-time and reports to the Finance Director.
Compensation
The salary is commensurate with experience. Salary range is $58,000-$64,000 per year.
