Sr Instrumentation Technician

In this position, you will:

Work in the engineering lab, with direction from management and collaboration with engineers, to install engine and test cell instrumentation, configure data acquisition systems, and support complex development and validation tests.  The position involves supporting laboratory operations including creating process documentation, inventory/parts management, EHS and safety, and other tasks in support of the business and operations.

The R&D Lab operates full-scale Waukesha engine assets (400 to 5000+ HP), advanced data collection and emissions measurement technology, and a suite of infrastructure/tools to test the full operating envelope of our products and simulate actual customer conditions.

Essential Responsibilities

• Plan and install instrumentation equipment
• Set-up, calibration, operation, and repair of instrumentation equipment (hardware and software
• Plan and execute automated testing based on provided inputs/requirements
• Maintain inventory of consumable instrumentation supplies and hardware
• Set up and run vibration/torsional tests
• Operate and support the use of data acquisition, emission, and other testing instrumentation
• Document and communicate instrumentation calibration results
• Identify, recommend, and evaluate purchase of new instrumentation
• Maintain a clean and orderly work area
• Perform frequent hand operations like soldering, crimping wires to connectors and wiring tasks
• Ability to work in a team setting with a positive and professional attitude
• Occasionally lift a maximum of 40 lbs

Qualifications/Requirements (Required)

• Associate of Applied Science degree in electrical/electronic field (High school diploma GED plus an additional 4 years’ experience as a lab technician may be substituted for associate degree)
• 2 years working in a lab instrumentation role (electrical, computer and/or test cell)
• Demonstrated problem solving skills
• Organizational skills required to effectively handle and prioritize multiple tasks and perform detail-oriented work
• Demonstrated ability to install and calibrate basic instrumentation such as thermocouples and pressure transducers
• Self-starter, quick learner, reliable, and punctual

Additional Qualifications (Not required to be considered for role, but any of the below skills would be beneficial)

• Diagnosing and repairing complex engine instrumentation and facility related problems
• Installing engine and test cell data acquisition instrumentation
• Flexible in work assignments requiring minimal supervision
• Hands-on experience with reciprocating engines, components, and technology
• Knowledge of vibration and torsional measurement tools
• Knowledge of strain gauge installation and measurement tools
• Working knowledge of programming PLC systems used in facility and building equipment control and monitoring
• Using, maintaining, and customizing computer-based data acquisition system to ISO instrumentation standards
