We are looking for a Social Media Lead to grow our channels and mobilize people to stop ocean plastic. This role will offer you the opportunity to lead end to end media channels from conception and strategy to deployment, influencing culture and utilizing the power of media for positive social change.
You will join a multicultural global team of creators, and you will lead the way to spread our presence and impact through social media. The strategies you create will help us to achieve cultural relevance, build advocacy, and mobilize audiences in numbers to take positive action for protecting the ocean from plastic and creating social impact in our communities.

Plastic Bank empowers ocean stewards to stop ocean plastic. Our ethical collection communities exchange plastic for life improving benefits. Exchanges are recorded through a blockchain-secured platform that enables traceable collection, secures income, and verifies reporting. Collected material is processed into Social Plastic® feedstock for reuse in products and packaging. Plastic Bank was founded in 2013, and is headquartered in Vancouver BC, Canada with operations across Southeast Asia, Latin America and Africa.
YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
- Grow and inspire our audiences owning our channels in Social Media - Linkedin, Facebook, Instagram, Tik Tok, Twitter and Youtube
- Build the channel’s strategic vision for editorial including personality, tone of voice, content pillars and activation
- Outsmart money-hungry social algorithms and lead brand’s growth (reach, followers, positive sentiments and engagement) with relevant content distributed through an strategic approach to paid, owned, earned and shared media strategies
- Excite our brand fans to turn into loyal customers with engaging, responsive, responsible, surprising, and captivating social media interactions
- Define the vision and approach for collaborating with content creators in mobilizing advocacy and action, driving an always-on strategy for influencer engagement
- Identify new channel opportunities to expand Plastic Bank’s media presence and relevance
- Collaborate with the team in turning campaign briefs into exciting and inspiring creative ideas and audience strategies for Social Media
- Make Plastic Bank a part of trending and relevant social conversations
- Work closely with the PR team in situations where the Crisis communication plan is deployed
- Drive the creation and production of long- and short-form social media messages that attract new users and engage current users
- Own, lead, analyze and report social media metrics for leadership team
- Use data to analyze what’s working, what’s not, and reinforce or refocus key messages accordingly
YOUR BACKGROUND
- 7 or more years of social media experience including planning and managing content in a corporate, or agency setting. Previous experience leading social media in a start-up company or entertainment company will be considered a plus
- Strongly passionate about reducing ocean pollution, alleviating poverty and growing Plastic Bank's mission into a phenomenal global movement
- In tune with media trends with a passion for turning media insights into strategic and creative plans
- Excited with versatility as you work with multiple teams to develop strategy, work with designers, write copy, manage social communities, and analyze data
- Thrives in a fast-paced environment and understands how to be responsive to a continuously evolving media landscape
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and must have a thorough understanding of social media management and strategy
- Experience using various analytics software and social dashboards
- Working knowledge of Mailchimp, HTML, CSS
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, marketing, or a related field will be considered a plus
