About The Global Alliance of Territorial Communities (GATC)
The Global Alliance of Territorial Communities (GATC) is a coalition of organizations representing the world's major tropical forests: the Alliance of Indigenous Communities of the Indonesian Archipelago (AMAN) in Southeast Asia; the Mesoamerican Alliance of Forest Peoples (AMPB) in Mesoamerica; the Coordination of Indigenous Organizations of the Amazon Basin (COICA) in the Amazon region; the Articulation of Indigenous Peoples of Brazil (APIB) in Brazil; and the Network of Indigenous and Local Populations for the Sustainable Management of Forest Ecosystems in Central Africa (REPALEAC) in the Congo Basin. Together, they carry the voice of indigenous peoples and local communities in 24 countries. The Alliance is governed by a Leadership Council, led by two Co-Chairs, and a Secretariat, led by the Executive Secretary.
The GATC is developing a financial platform, the Shandia Platform, that enables its member organizations to access climate funds more directly. Shandia will connect international donors with indigenous peoples and local communities’ (IP and LC) organizations, providing investment that: expands indigenous land tenure; strengthens territorial management; mitigates climate change; protects biodiversity; and restores degraded ecosystems.
About the Position
The GATC is seeking a Shandia Coordinator to help build out and implement the Shandia Platform, in collaboration with the Leadership Council, Secretariat, and Technical Team. She/he will work with the GATC member organizations to strengthen their ability to capture and manage finance.
At the end of one year, the Shandia Platform should be fully constituted and operational, capable of channeling funds directly to IP and LCs represented by the GATC’s 5 member organizations.
