The ClimateShot Investor Coalition (CLIC) is an action-oriented group of investors working in agriculture and food systems. CLIC aims to rapidly scale-up the finance necessary to shift towards low-carbon and climate-resilient agriculture and food systems globally, thus delivering on the ambitions of the Glasgow Breakthrough Agenda on Agriculture agreed at COP26. CPI runs the Secretariat for CLIC.
Position Summary
CPI is recruiting for a Senior Analyst position offering an exciting opportunity to contribute to CPI’s work in climate finance for agrifood systems, specifically by conducting analytical work related to the ClimateShot Investor Coalition (CLIC)’s Agrifood Investment Connector
Reporting to the CLIC Connector Manager, the CLIC Senior Analyst will be responsible for overall leadership and knowledge management of the Connector impact work, in close coordination with the CLIC Manager, the Connector Manager, analysts and independent consultant.
You will need to quickly develop a solid understanding of the CPI and CLIC mission in the climate finance for agrifood systems space as well as the CPI/CLIC stakeholders and partners that drive it. You will also be asked to forge partnerships with organisations including government officials, investors, funders, agribusiness accelerators, deal rooms and relevant technical assistance (TA) programs in emerging and developing economies.

The Senior Analyst will work in close cooperation with a range of international partners from the agrifood policy, finance, and corporate spheres, as well as with CPI teams across the globe. You will gain exposure to a wide array of stakeholders in the agriculture and food systems climate investment space whilst drawing on the CPI world class technical teams focused on scaling-up and accelerating finance for agriculture and food systems globally.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
The Senior Analyst will be assigned primary duties including, but not limited to those outlined below:
- Hold primary responsibility for coordinating the climate and nature risk and impact assessment work conducted under the CLIC Connector, including knowledge management, ongoing development of guidance on climate and nature impact assessment methodologies and tools e.g GHG accounting, lifecycle assessment etc.
- Lead the team of analysts and consultants working with agribusiness cohorts to assess climate and nature impacts, and advise agribusinesses on how to integrate those in their investors’ pitch decks.
- Develop, manage, and implement complex analytical and research approaches, assignments and analytical projects.
- Lead the writing and editing of high-quality research products, including full reports, executive summaries, briefs, blogs, and presentations. Produce high-quality materials that are fit for purpose and on time and within budget.
- Provide substantial inputs to the CLIC wider strategy, as well as workplans to reflect emerging trends in the field as well as members ambitions and/or agribusinesses’ needs.
- Train, manage and provide guidance to junior staff on professional work practices and lead by example.
- Engage partners, members, agribusinesses and investors in research and analysis collaborations and to ensure coordination and to boost the effectiveness and relevance of the Connector’s offering related to impact and risk assessment. This includes understanding what relevant funders/partners are assessing/measuring, as well as their views on the CLIC Connector’s climate and nature impact assessment methodologies.
- Supporting relevant funders/partners in adopting CLIC Connector’s climate and nature impact assessment methodologies, e.g. through active engagements, conducting webinars etc.
- Support agribusinesses in their grant applications, e.g. reviewing proposals. Communicate and collaborate with CPI staff working around the globe as needed as well as with independent consultants.
- Determine resourcing needs and, in close coordination with the CLIC Manager and the Connector Manager, lead the recruitment of external consultants for specific tasks associated with the Connector impact assessment work.
Qualifications & Experience
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Finance, Environmental, Biological or Physical Sciences or another relevant field.
- Significant professional experience developing and implementing quantitative and qualitative environmental and social impact assessment methodologies, tools and guidelines related to agrifood systems and climate, in particular drawing on GHG accounting, lifecycle assessment, environmental impact assessment.
- Understanding of the agrifood sector challenges in the face of climate change and nature degradation, familiarity with the actors operating in the sector and with actions that are needed to shift the sector towards climate and nature positive pathways by mobilizing finance, with a particular focus on developing economies.
- Independent, analytical mind with an excellent track record of applying sound evidence-based judgment to complex issues.
- Ability to manage and engage stakeholders in the agrifood sector.
- Excellent project management skills including time management, task delegation and prioritization, and communication skills.
- Flexibility, professionalism, enthusiasm for working as part of a team, and an ability to interact with a diverse array of people.
- An ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.
Beneficial:
- Master’s or postgraduate degree in a relevant field.
- Experience working with MSME and/or agribusinesses and understanding of their specific challenges and operating contexts.
- Familiarity with issues related to climate or nature finance in agrifood systems or related experience gained as part of either consulting companies, international nonprofit, think tanks, research organisations, government, and/or similar organisations.
- Knowledge and understanding of the IPCC guidelines for GHG inventories or other similar core resources, tools, standards and frameworks relevant also to climate adaptation and resilience and nature.
- Experience working with actors across the public and private sectors on climate issues related to agrifood systems (for example, impact investors, businesses, development finance institutions, and governments and regulators).
- Familiarity with technical assistance and grant funded programs.
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally.
- Fluency in a second language.
