Senior Accountant – Compliance and Tax

About the opportunity

SWCA Environmental Consultants has an immediate need for a Senior Accountant – Compliance and Tax to support our Corporate Office in Phoenix, Arizona.

This is a key position in SWCA’s accounting department and has a wide span of responsibility and influence.  In addition to traditional accounting responsibilities, the Senior Accountant – Compliance and Tax plays a pivotal role in ensuring SWCA is compliant with taxes, business requirements, and internal controls. This is a full-time, salaried position reporting to the Controller.  Pay will be based on individual qualifications and experience.

What you will accomplish

• Develops and owns process for managing (tracking/preparing/filing/remitting payments) all tax requirements (property, sales and use, other business taxes);
• Maintains business compliance including annual reports, business licenses, and registrations;
• Administration of Fixed Asset system (additions, deletions, depreciation);
• Complete monthly account reconciliations for key general ledger accounts;
• Develops and performs internal control audits to test key internal controls;
• Partners with external CPA to manage income tax requirements and payments;
• Completes and manages the annual insurance renewal process;
• Prepares ad-hoc reports and performs analysis as needed to support operations management;
• Supports Controller with all external audits: annual GAAP audit, annual FAR audit, state DOT audits, client audits, etc.
• Assists Controller with flux analysis, and transaction detail reviews for quality control;
• Assist Controller with other finance initiatives and projects;
• Proactive and independent;
• Ability to communicate effectively with all levels throughout the organization;
• Willingness to work extra hours to meet deadlines, as needed (note that SWCA values work-life balance in general)

Experience and qualifications for success

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related business field
• 3 years of accounting and/or finance experience
• Sales and use tax, property tax, or other relevant tax experience
• Excellent Excel software skills

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master’s degree in Accounting or a related business field
• Multi-company accounting experience
• Merger and acquisition accounting experience
• International accounting (currency conversion) experience
• Construction, engineering, or related field experience
• Previous Deltek Vision experience

An employee in this Phoenix, AZ office -based position can expect a salary of $68,640 - $88,400/year. Actual pay within this range may depend on experience, qualifications, geographic location, client requirements where applicable, and other factors permitted by law. Regular-status employees are also eligible for performance bonuses.
