The role
The Consultant will carry out structured observation and in-depth in-person interviews in support of a study on language capacity and gaps in the health sector of the Rohingya response in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh.
This study, designed and directed by a Lead Researcher, will build on the findings of a study conducted in July 2022 on language challenges faced by patients accessing primary health care. It will use in-depth interviews and observation to look in more depth at the practices and experiences of health professionals and community health workers, and how these impact the experience for patients. The result will be a clear, evidenced account of operationally relevant findings and a set of practical recommendations for health service providers.
The Consultant will coordinate remotely with the Lead Researcher, and in person with CLEAR Global’s Bangladesh team, to plan, prepare and conduct the research activities. They will be responsible for collecting data using the agreed tools and sharing it in the agreed format and to the agreed level of detail. They will observe CLEAR Global’s ethical research standards and policies and procedures relating to security, disease reduction and data protection. Flexibility and the willingness to adapt to changing circumstances is crucial.

Women and girls, people with disabilities, and older people face particular barriers to understanding and being heard by service providers.
This impacts people’s ability to claim their rights, make informed decisions, and get the support they need. It also affects the extent to which humanitarian services in a range of sectors can achieve their intended outcomes for the community.
