The Center for Black Educator Development exists to (re)build a national Black Teacher Pipeline to achieve educational and racial justice by ensuring there is equity in the recruiting, training, hiring, and retention of quality educators that reflect the cultural background and share common socio-political interests of the students they serve. About the Position
The Regional Program Director (RPD) will oversee programming for CBED’s Black Teacher Pipeline in the Memphis area. The RPD will be responsible for programmatic and operational success by ensuring seamless day-to-day operations, program implementation, quality control, and team management and development. The RPD will be the external face of CBED within the Memphis community and demonstrate excellence in cultivating relationships with key stakeholders and communicating CBED’s mission and vision.
Responsibilities include:
Program Operational Management (50%):
- Establish, organize, train, and mobilize stakeholders in support of CBED’s mission and programs
- Oversee operations including finances, relationships with partner schools and new community partnerships, coordinating logistics, and working with all departments
- Collaborate with the Director of External Affairs to manage relationships with key stakeholders including close management of a local steering committee
- Cultivate relationships with vendors to ensure space, resources, and access to services
- Hire/manage staff to support executing enrollment, retention and engagement efforts, including a Regional Program Manager to oversee instructional programming
- Other duties as assigned
Programming Leadership (30%):
- Oversight of our Black Teacher Pipeline programs and cultivating youth to be eligible for the Black Teacher Pipeline Fellowship
- Collaborate with program directors to establish goals, objectives, and evaluation systems for progress monitoring, to prove outcomes and accomplishments
- Serve on Freedom Schools Literacy Academy team throughout the year to ensure successful implementation in the region
- Meet with leadership team to provide updates and strategize on program goals
- Oversee reporting requirements regarding enrollment, outcomes, and key metrics
- Meet with partner organizations to ensure goals are set and measured regularly
- Cultivate relationships w/higher ed. providing admissions agreements for participants
- Secure high school employment with a youth workforce development entity
- Develop, communicate, and implement all program policies and procedures
- Other duties as assigned
Staff Supervision and Coaching (20%):
- Provide coaching and support to program partnership staff/facilitators
- Supervise and coach participants and staff in select CBED led programming
- Ensure that programming, training, and support is effectively moving program participants to and through The Black Teacher Pipeline
- Design and facilitate training for partnerships/CBED staff and program participants
- Mentor and develop staff and participants, and manage work to evaluate performance
- Other duties as assigned
Background and experience expectations:
- Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field; Master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum of five (5) years leadership experience in an education setting, plus at least two (2) years of experience in program development
- Demonstrated experience coaching and mentoring teachers and teacher leaders
- Have a deep commitment to The Center’s mission, vision, and core values
- Experience offering instructional and non-instructional support to others via online platforms
- Exceptional communication, public speaking, interpersonal skills; Must possess excellent facilitation and presentation skills
- Strong project management skills; Detailed oriented and organized with strong ability to successfully manage multiple projects
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong relationships with a diverse stakeholder group - candidates must possess strong active listening with a high degree of empathy and openness
- Ability to work efficiently both independently and as part of a collaborative team; Must be able to work a hybrid schedule with on-site responsibilities in the Memphis metropolitan area
Other work requirements:
- Must have access to a workspace, phone, and internet for remote work
- Traveling to partner sites – valid driver’s license, current insurance, and registration; Must have daily accessibility to reliable means of transportation.
- Must live in the Memphis metropolitan area
