What is the opportunity?
The REAL-Water Program Manager will be responsible for managing Water Mission’s new initiative: Rural Evidence and Learning for Water (REAL-Water) Program. Funded by USAID and led by the Aquaya Institute, the REAL-Water program will evaluate strategies for expanding access to safe, equitable, and sustainable rural water across the developing world. This full-time position can be located in Charleston, SC or remotely. The role may require international travel within sub-Saharan Africa and will report to Water Mission’s Director of Program Development.
The REAL Water program will conduct research on three primary topics:
A successful REAL-Water Program Manager will:
Maintain a strong Christian witness to colleagues, donors, volunteers, and the general public.
Coordinate with in-country staff and leadership across HQ, Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania to ensure all activities are implemented according to pre-approved scope, schedule, and budget.
Coordinate field trials and evaluation of water quality safety interventions.
Oversee fieldwork and data collection teams in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania.
Coordinate data collection activities for all research streams.
Manage project budgets and timelines.
Monthly invoicing for global REAL-Water activities.
Coordinate with MERL team on data analysis (quantitative and qualitative).
Contribute to publications, reports, and dissemination materials.
Develop strategy for knowledge management and learning for all stakeholders.
Facilitate REAL-Water learning workshops.
Present at sector conferences, determined by the REAL-Water leadership team.
Routine reporting for internal and external stakeholders.
Other duties as assigned.
What is required?

Demonstrated experience in program management, preferably related to water and/or sanitation.
Master’s degree – preferably in engineering, science, environmental science, or related field.
4+ years of relevant work experience.
Data analysis experience, using Excel, R, or Stata.
Previous international work experience in sub-Saharan Africa.
Ability to travel both internationally and domestically for up to 10 weeks annually.
Previous work experience managing USAID funds and reporting requirements preferred.
Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
Fluency in English.
Strong verbal and written communication skills in cross-cultural settings required.
Advanced word processing and spreadsheet software skills required.
Home internet bandwidth strong enough to support video conferencing and other job-related responsibilities.
Legal authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.
Good problem-solving and time management skills.
Strong work ethic and a commitment to delivery.
Outstanding organization and time management skills, with an attention to detail and an ability to establish systems to manage constant flows of information and deliver on deadlines.
Proven ability to work closely with a small team and to successfully manage multiple and changing priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, while maintaining a positive and productive attitude and a good sense of humor!
