R&D Engineer II
Ambri, an energy startup commercializing an innovative battery technology first developed at MIT, is seeking an R&D Engineer II to explore and assist development of cell components for next-generation lower-cost and/or higher performing versions of Ambri’s Liquid Metal™ battery cell products.
Position Overview
Ambri is seeking an individual contributor to join Ambri’s newly formed Applied Research team. The position requires working collaboratively with our Seals and Cell Development teams to improve Ambri’s battery components to further reduce cost and/or achieve greater performance for next generation cell products. This role requires someone who has broad laboratory experience, especially in ceramic materials and processing methods, a working knowledge of electrochemical systems, with a preference towards someone experienced with furnace operation, inert atmosphere sample handling, and/or powder processing. Experience with ceramic machining methods, metallurgy and dissimilar material joining is highly desirable.
The work will involve a combination of in-house hands-on experiments, testing, and development, with dedicated equipment such as gloveboxes, furnaces, powder handling systems and battery testers, including collaboration with external research partners and/or vendors.
This role requires someone that can quickly understand high level objectives, independently formulate a systematic approach to identifying and exploring options worth testing, excels at hands-on testing and R&D, provides clear communication to colleagues and research partners, has a collaborative working style while also being comfortable with engaging in critical discussions to ensure we are making as much progress as possible.
