About IWPR

Founded in 1991 and currently operating in three dozen countries worldwide, the Institute for War and Peace Reporting (IWPR) is an award-winning international media and human rights development network with charitable status in the United States, the United Kingdom, and the Netherlands.

The Role

We are looking for a full-time project officer to assist with IWPR’s Georgia operations under the project “The Amplify, Verify, Engage: Information for Democratisation and Good Governance in Eurasia,” implemented with the financial support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Norway.

The Project Officer will be responsible for assisting with project activities and outputs, coordinating any technical assistance, and capacity building with local groups. He/she will also provide administrative support to the project, including keeping and updating the project’s events and reporting calendars, keeping a directory of sub-awards, agreements, procurement, and other documentation. It is a full-time position under the supervision of the Project Manager in Tbilisi and the overall guidance of the South Caucasus & Moldova Regional Director.

Responsibilities:

  • To edit and coordinate the publishing and production of media output submitted by IWPR contributing journalists in agreement with the line manager or IWPR editors;
  • To produce context-relevant topical calls for IWPR contributing journalists based on local media monitoring in line with IWPR’s editorial policies;
  • To develop and maintain good relations with media representatives and CSOs in the EaP region;
  • To coordinate the implementation of project activities, including organising and facilitating consultations, roundtables, working group meetings, and public events in line with the annual action plan;
  • To plan, together with the Project Manager, an effective agenda and ensure that project goals are set and met;
  • To schedule meetings, trainings, networking activities and prepare notes: the record of information such as key points of discussion, the actions assigned, and decisions made;
  • To write reports such as monthly reports, activity reports, assessments, and any other written communication required by IWPR and donors;
  • To keep and regularly update directories of project documents (procurement, agreement, sub-awards, etc.);
  • To keep and regularly update the project’s events calendar (sub-award reporting, donor reporting, technical assistance, etc.);
  • To ensure due diligence processes are in place in line with IWPR policies;
  • To assist IWPR Tbilisi staff in other projects and administrative tasks.

The successful candidate should possess:

Experience

  • A university degree in journalism, social sciences, political sciences, or a related field;
  • Minimum three years of experience in working with an international organisation, NGOs, or other relevant institutions;
  • Minimum three years of experience in copywriting and journalism, as well as in journalism training;
  • Experience in project design, implementation, monitoring, evaluation, and report writing;
  • Experience in event organisation and management;
  • Experience in managing sub-awards would be an advantage.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the media and information landscape, political, economic, and cultural context of the EaP Region;
  • Excellent writing skills;
  • Excellent administrative and organisational skills;
  • Fluency in Georgian and English; command of Russian would be an advantage;
  • Computer literate, including Microsoft Office and advanced knowledge of Excel;
  • An additional skill set in web design and management of online publishing tools is an advantage.
