Project Controls Specialist

About the opportunity

SWCA Environmental Consultants is seeking a Project Controls Specialist to join us and support our West Region operations in Arizona, California, Hawaii and Nevada. This is a newly created position and has the potential to be remote or based out of any of our West Region offices. The ideal candidate will be located within the Pacific time zone and will be part of a dynamic culture in a climate where people are motivated to bring their best work to help us grow and prosper. This is a full-time, hourly position with a typical work week of 40 hours per week, depending on workload. Some projects may include overtime to meet deadlines.

What you will accomplish

• Assists with standard project setup within SWCA’s project accounting system (Deltek Vision).
• Work closely with project managers to provide project financial tracking and reporting.
• Work closely with project managers and project accounting specialists to review client invoices and draft progress reports.
• Work with project managers to monitor and mitigate project overruns. Assist with development of change orders.
• Supports development of project budgets and work breakdown structures.
• Supports coordination of subconsultant contracting and management.
• Actively participate and spearhead project controls related topics at program management meetings

Experience and qualifications for success

• Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and Office
• Team and customer service oriented, detail oriented, self-motivated, flexible, and results driven.
• Strong people skills and reasoning ability to solve practical problems.
• The ability to work independently and with project managers, staff, subcontractors, and client representatives.
• Able to ‘multi-task’ regularly with multiple deadlines.
• Excellent organizational and administrative capabilities.
• Superior verbal and written communication skills.

Required Qualifications

• At least 1-2 years of experience with an environmental and/or A/E/C firm with relevant project controls or project coordination experience involving project management and financial tracking.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in finance/business or a related field.
• Proficient with Deltek Vision or similar project accounting software.
• Proficient with Smartsheet reporting and dashboards.
• Motivated self-starter and ability to think creatively.
• Familiarity with federal environmental protection laws.

An employee in this Pasadena, CA based position can expect an hourly rate of $26.44-$33.19. Actual pay within this range may depend on experience, qualifications, geographic location, client requirements where applicable, and other factors permitted by law.  Regular-status employees are also eligible for performance bonuses.
