Principal Project Manager

About the opportunity

SWCA Environmental Consultants is seeking a Principal Project Manager to support energy projects in the Midwest and central/eastern U.S. We are seeking a candidate who is looking to develop or continue a long-term consulting career that combines high-level technical expertise, with project leadership and management of multidiscipline teams delivering for clients across several business lines and geographies. The successful candidate will oversee small to complex projects and will maintain high-quality scientific and technical work to ensure alignment with SWCA's goals and objectives.

This is a permanent, salaried, full-time, regular position reporting to SWCA's Scarborough, Maine office.  Preference will be given to candidates located in the Cincinnati, Ohio region.

What you will accomplish

  • Directly provide and lead others in providing environmental compliance services in conformance with the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA), National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), Clean Water Act (CWA), the Endangered Species Act (ESA), and a host of other federal and state regulatory statutes.
  • Manage or contribute to the execution of large, strategic, or multidisciplinary projects.
  • Mentor and supervise staff.
  • Promote a culture of teamwork, engagement, quality service, and customer satisfaction.
  • Assist with internal strategy in alignment with overall regional and corporate growth plans for the region.
  • Enhance SWCA’s professional reputation and demonstrate the ability to be creative and innovative with these tasks while representing SWCA in a professional manner.
  • Work closely with other key individuals throughout SWCA to promote our business interests in adherence with the company’s mission, vision, and values.
  • Actively develop business with new clients and act as advocate for existing clients to ensure client satisfaction and facilitate repeat business.
  • Team-orientated attitude with strong leadership and mentoring skills.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.

Experience and qualifications for success

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in an environmental related field.
  • A minimum of (12) twelve years of experience in environmental consulting overseeing fieldwork and report completion, QA/QC, scheduling, and budgeting of projects, as well as success in proposal writing.
  • A minimum of seven (7) years of experience managing complex, large scale energy projects
  • Demonstrated business development success and consulting acumen, including substantial established credibility with federal and state reviewing agencies and clients.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in a related field.
  • Active in a professional environmental organization.

An employee in this Scarborough-based position can expect a salary of $105,040.00-$138,320.00/year.  Actual pay within this range may depend on experience, qualifications, geographic location, client requirements where applicable, and other factors permitted by law. Regular-status employees are also eligible for performance bonuses.
