E3G is hiring for two Policy Advisor positions that will contribute to E3G’s work on redirecting finance and investment to deliver sustainable and inclusive development, focusing on the role of public banks like the World Bank in particular and supporting the drive for international financial architecture reform being led by the Bridgetown Initiative. These posts will be based in London.

Background

E3G is an independent climate change think tank. We are world leading strategists on the political economy of climate change, dedicated to achieving a safe climate for all.

We work on the frontier of the climate politics landscape tackling the barriers and advancing the solutions to a safe climate. Our goal is to translate climate politics, economics and policies into action.

E3G is ranked as one of the top ten most influential environmental think tanks in the world by the University of Pennsylvania’s Global Go To Think Tank Index.

E3G offers a dynamic and fast paced working environment that will value your insight, initiative and collaboration wherever you are in the organisation.

E3G values diversity and encourages applications from all suitably qualified candidates regardless of age, gender, race, disability, sexual orientation, religion or ethnic background.

The role

The aim of the E3G Public Banks Programme is to turn Multilateral Development Banks and other public and development banks into transformational leaders of the transition to a climate-safe world. This role will be at the core workstream of the wider Public Banks Programme and will have a particular focus on undertaking research on development finance institutions of all shapes and sizes. It will primarily revolve around supporting the current drive for International Financial Architecture Reform in the Bridgetown Initiative. There will be opportunities to engage with the staff of these institutions and to have exposure to other E3G work programmes, such as climate diplomacy and clean economy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Helping to ensure that public banks, in particular Multilateral Development Banks (MDBs), accelerate the transition towards a climate-safe world.

  • Producing internal and external communications materials in collaboration with internal/external stakeholders, e.g., E3G policy briefings, reports, social media content in the framework of E3G’s Public Bank Climate Tracker Matrix and undertaking wider analysis.

  • Coordinating with other E3G teams in order to facilitate improvements to task force and expand awareness of its work across E3G.

  • Monitor changes at MDBs and Public Banks and provide updates to the wider Sustainable Finance department and all E3G, as well as to external stakeholders.

  • Perform administrative support activities to facilitate internal/external engagement efforts.

  • Develop new areas of interest/future E3G work around public banks and international public finance.

  • Any other reasonable management request.

Experience and skills

  • The candidate should be able to demonstrate a high level of initiative and be positive, organised, resilient and able to deliver high quality work on time.

  • They should demonstrate attention to detail combined with the ability to analyse complex information to create high-level summaries.

  • An undergraduate degree, and ideally a post graduate degree, in a relevant discipline where possible. This could include politics, social sciences, economics, finance, climate change, environment or international relations.

  • Relevant professional experience and track record in a relevant setting e.g., political, policy or research in government or international institution, civil society, think tank or research institute.

  • A good working understanding of the implications of the low carbon transition on the finance sector and of the role of finance in sustainable development. Knowledge or experience in the public bank and international public finance policy landscape and decision-making processes would be an advantage.

  • Experience of advocating for solutions, and of communicating using a range of different media, e.g. reports, blogs, press, social media.

  • Quantitative data analysis skills for analysis and data visualization are highly desirable.

  • Very strong written and spoken communication skills and impeccable written and spoken English. Other languages would be an advantage.
