Natural Resources Technician

SWCA Environmental Consultants is looking for a Natural Resources Technician (Temporary) to support projects in North Dakota and throughout the Midwest, and reporting to our Bismarck, ND office. This office offers a unique work environment and specializes in Renewable Energy, Transmission, and Oil & Gas. What you will accomplish

• Assist with conducting a variety of natural resources field studies including threatened/endangered species assessments, bat surveys, wetland delineations, and avian/wildlife surveys.
• Conduct fieldwork, organize and transfer field data, and write technical reports and permit applications related to Clean Water Act, Endangered Species Act and other resource planning/permitting, and/or natural resource disciplines.
• Use topographic maps, aerial photographs, GPS units, and other maps and tools during fieldwork.
• Safely operate SWCA-owned and rental vehicles, including 4-wheel drive vehicles.
• Completes individual tasks of low complexity or duration with supervision
• Performs data collection and mapping in the field
• Performs a broad range of tasks related to a variety of wildlife, plant, upland, and aquatic resources
• Assists in field data QA/QC
• Performs data entry and synthesis
• Conducts research following standard processes
• Contributes to discrete writing tasks under direction
• Troubleshoots routine problems with oversight
• Applies basic knowledge of regulations or guidelines to job
• Complies with the safety plan and may oversee implementation of the plan in the field

Experience and qualifications for success

• Minimum of a High School Diploma or Demonstrated Equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in a related field.
• Experience conducting environmental fieldwork.
• Experience with field and report writing related to the CWA and ESA.
• Avian study experience.
• Botany experience.

Additional Information:

• Ability to walk and conduct fieldwork for long hours, sometimes in inclement weather, rugged terrain.
• Ability to easily access projects in Midwestern states.
• Ability to carry equipment and supplies weighing up to 40 pounds.
• Frequent travel will be required for the position, with field work sometimes reaching 80% of your time.

An employee in this position can expect an hourly rate of $18.75 - $24.75/hr. Actual pay within this range may depend on experience, qualifications, geographic location, client requirements where applicable, and other factors permitted by law.
