Program/Department Overview

Moms Clean Air Force is a community of moms, dads, and others united against air pollution—including the urgent crisis of our changing climate—to protect children’s health. We fight for Justice in Every Breath, recognizing the importance of equitable solutions in addressing air pollution and climate change. We equip members with reliable information and solutions through online resources, articles, action tools, and on-the-ground events.

Overall Function

Moms Clean Air Force is seeking a highly motivated and deeply qualified undergraduate student who is excited about communications and social media work. The intern would be responsible for creating social media content (mostly Twitter), helping us connect with reporters, and supporting writing projects like our biweekly Moms Make News blog posts and media advisories. This individual would work most closely with the communications team, but would also have the opportunity to collaborate with other teams at Moms and learn about how our organization functions.

Key Responsibilities

Tasks will include but are not limited to:

• Create content for our state, press, and national Twitter handles and provide occasional Facebook and Instagram support, if needed.
• Build Twitter lists to help Moms engage with reporters over social media.
• Monitor media for important articles to share on our social media platforms.
• Identify key reporters in our target states and update our media contact lists.
• Provide drafting support for Moms Make News and media advisories.
• Attend Moms Clean Air Force virtual meetings.
• Participate in advancing EDF Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) goals in which people from all backgrounds and experiences feel connected, included, and empowered to address the environmental and organizational challenges in alignment with EDF values.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in/recent graduate of an undergraduate degree program.
• Demonstrated interest in environmental, equity, and health issues.
• Must be eager to work on social media and communications.
• Twitter proficiency preferred.
• Ability to handle tights deadlines.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Must be well organized, motivated, and detail-oriented.
• Ability to multi-task, prioritize and meet deadlines.
• Ability to work in a team setting and have the ability to work independently when projects are due.
• Demonstrated self-awareness, cultural competency and inclusivity, and ability to work with colleagues and stakeholders across diverse cultures and backgrounds.
• Demonstrated initiative and problem solving skills.

Compensation

This internship would involve compensation for work paid at a rate competitive with leading non-profits at $17/hr.
