The Legal Department provides legal counsel, advice, and support to all areas of Mercy Corps headquarters and country offices in support of its international humanitarian and development programming. The Legal Intern’s primary role will be to support the Legal Department in advancing key departmental initiatives currently underway including supporting on updates to legal contract templates, the Legal Department’s internal client communications, and supporting on resources in development to support Mercy Corps’ international operations in its 40 countries.
At the end of the program the intern will have a deep understanding of the nature of the work and responsibilities of an in-house attorney at a complex international organization, will understand how to successfully interact with internal clients, will have a basic understanding of the legal issues that an international nonprofit faces, and will have learned at least one significant issue in great depth.
