The Island School, a not-for-profit organization based in The Bahamas, was founded to create and support transformational educational experiences with the vision of leadership effecting change, on the island of Eleuthera. The diverse educational initiatives, including our High School Semester and Summer Term, Deep Creek Middle School, Elementary Learning Center, and our Community Engagement and Partnerships, deliver unique educational journeys in conjunction with the authentic and meaningful work our organization undertakes in research and sustainable development at the Cape Eleuthera Institute, our research and innovation hub. We are reimagining what education is for, and redesigning how education is delivered.

Position Overview
This position requires a highly motivated and flexible individual to work collaboratively with students, leaders and staff across educational programs in a flexible, team-oriented environment to promote student learning and a culture of excellence. The learning support teacher will identify, assess, support, monitor and evaluate students' specific learning needs. Through a combination of direct service and co-teaching, the learning support teacher will deliver educational programming for students ranging from elementary through high school and will engage faculty, students and families to support the vision and mission of The Island School.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Support the broad educational programming (e.g.co-teaching) and deliver targeted instruction (e.g. small group, 1:1) to support specific student learning needs at The Island School, including the Elementary Learning Center, Deep Creek Middle School, Deep Creek Primary School, the Semester (high school) program and Community Engagement programs.
• Develop and use appropriate formal and informal assessment tools to identify students with learning needs, target instruction and monitor progress
• Collaborate with colleagues to plan instruction and pedagogical strategies with classroom teachers to support diverse learners
• Provide direct small group and one-on-one instruction to identified students, using intervention materials and strategies
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date data for all students identified as needing learning support and provide periodic progress reports to teachers, school leaders, and families
• Participate in educational team meetings as appropriate
• Participate in school/family conferences to support student learning
• Provide professional development for teachers on best practices for literacy and mathematics instruction
• Develop positive relationships with partners, organizations and the general public
• Flexibly deliver programming at multiple educational settings and within a range of models, including in-person, virtual or hybrid learning environments
• Demonstrate leadership and professionalism
• Model excellence and an ongoing commitment to professional growth and development
• Serve as a role model to students and faculty
• Demonstrate excellent communication skills, relational/social skills, and problem-solving abilities
