Lead Restoration Engineer

About the opportunity

SWCA is seeking a Lead Restoration Engineer to work from our Raleigh, NC location. SWCA is a nationwide environmental consulting firm and is 100% employee owned. Our North Carolina group is growing and in need of a lead design engineer to assist with stream restoration, wetland restoration, watershed management planning, hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, erosion and sediment control plans, and resilience planning for private and public sector clients. Projects will include sites throughout the Southeast, and support of other projects across the U.S. The position will entail travel and short-term overnight efforts to collect field data and meet with clients.

We are seeking a skilled Environmental or Civil Engineer who has experience in stream channel design, hydraulic modeling, shear stress calculations, stormwater management facility design, geomorphic process assessment, erosion and sediment control design, and project management. The candidate must have a strong skill set managing junior level staff and business development.  The position will also require coordination with multiple disciplines including: CAD designers, GIS analysts, environmental biologists, and other engineers, as well as regular interaction with regulatory agencies, municipalities, and clients.

What you will accomplish

  • Lead engineering design and development of construction drawings.
  • Support the engineering needs of regional SWCA offices.
  • Work with the engineering team across the SWCA offices to balance workloads and keep projects on schedule and within budget.
  • Perform technical reviews of project deliverables to assure consistency and accuracy and assist with Quality Control and Quality Assurance.
  • Ability to work independently and with other Project Managers and multi-task regularly in a fast-paced environment with multiple changes; work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Be able to identify opportunities and prospects through existing and new relationships with clients; attend professional networking groups and through collaboration with other SWCA offices.

Experience and qualifications for success

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil or environmental engineering.
  • Eight (8) or more years of experience in environmental engineering.
  • Professional Engineer License in the state of North Carolina, or the ability to obtain via reciprocity.
  • Prior work experience in one or more of the following states: North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, or Texas

Preferred:

  • Eight (8) or more years of experience in ecosystem restoration design.
  • Masters degree in related engineering field
  • Prior work experience in multiple southeast states
  • Prior experience in supporting development of proposals, business development, and client management

An employee in this Raleigh, NC-based position can expect a salary of  $98,800– $126,880/year. Actual pay within this range may depend on experience, qualifications, geographic location, client requirements where applicable, and other factors permitted by law. Regular-status employees are also eligible for performance bonuses.
