JOB ANNOUNCEMENT
POSITION SUMMARY
The Human Resources Director leads Sacred Heart’s processes to manage, evaluate and improve Sacred Heart’s human resources functions. The Human Resources Director’s primary role is to leverage technology to coordinate personnel activities, benefits administration, performance management, and wellness for approximately 100 staff. The position plays a key role in leading SHCS’ work in advancing racial and gender equity practices in the workplace. The director spearheads planning and implementation of leadership and strategic staffing efforts. The position supports the implementation of organization wide programs and special projects, and provides general support to the leadership team.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
• Serves as a member of the Senior Management Team providing advice and counsel with key metrics and strategic planning.
• Leads the planning and implementation of SHCS HR programs, events, training, policy campaigns, and employee engagement plans.
• Handles human resource inquiries related to policies, procedures, and bargaining agreements in collaboration with appropriate management staff.
• Actively participates in and serves as leadership presence and assistance in negotiations with unions in collective bargaining negotiations.
• Provides general support to the all department on HR issues and concerns.
• Attends Board of Directors meetings and Board committee meetings as assigned.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Refines and and implements “best practice” core personnel activities, including recruiting a diverse and high-quality applicant pool for open positions, orienting new employees, maintaining employee personnel files, and conducting exit interviews and terminations.
• Administers employee benefits: maintaining relationships with providers, employee enrollments, required employee notifications such as 1095Cs, annual compliance reports, and answering employee questions.
• Leads investigations related to harassment, discrimination, and misconduct and makes recommendations on appropriate response.
• Acts as primary liaison with staff union SEIU Local 521, providing monthly reports, updating employee records, scheduling meetings, collaborating with management to respond to grievances, and ensuring compliance with the collective bargaining agreement.
• Coordinates performance management and supports managers and directors with implementation.
• Maintains employee records, provides user support, and runs reports as needed for the organization’s ADP Payroll Processing database.
• Administers leaves of absence, workers’ compensation claims, reasonable accommodation requests, employment verifications, background checks, and unemployment claims.
• Maintains appropriate insurance coverage for SHCS including annual renewal process, submitting insurance claims, requests for certificates of insurance, and employee driving records.
• Maintains appropriate personnel policies and procedures in the Employee Handbook.
• Ensures Sacred Heart Community Service complies with all legal requirements regarding employees.
• Reviews and analyzes culture and climate concerns raised through SHCS’s formal and informal complaint processes.
• Coordinates employee safety efforts: ensures regular safety and non-violent crisis intervention trainings, supports directors and managers in tracking, analysis, and response to incident reports.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXEPERIENCE:
• Four-year degree or equivalent experience;
• 10 years’ experience in human resources;
• 5 years of management experience;
• Superior communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to listen deeply, articulate thoughts and ideas in a meaningful way, and have critical conversations with diplomacy and tact while handling confidential information with integrity;
• Excellent issue resolution skills with the ability to negotiate and resolve complex matters; and ability to work collaboratively with internal and external partners;
• Working knowledge of labor/employment law and personnel policies including a good working knowledge of related areas of the law such as FMLA, ADA and FLSA;
• Computer literacy with proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and Google Suite. ADP experience a plus
• Must complete a DMV and a background check, and qualify to be insured under SHCS driving policy.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
• Bilingual Spanish-English desired;
• Experience recommending and implementing human resources software systems;
• Experience with diversity, inclusion, and equity efforts;
• Experience with unionized work environments;
• PHR, SPHR or HRCI certification a plus.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:
Reports to the Deputy Director. Supervises Human Resource Coordinator.
COMPENSATION:
Position is exempt, full-time. Salary is commensurate with experience. Salary range is $120,000 – $130,00 per year.
