Higher Education Accountability Fellow/Senior Fellow

Hybrid | New York, New York or Washington, D.C | Minimum Salary: $90,000/Maximum Salary: $150,000

The Century Foundation (TCF), an independent progressive public policy think tank, seeks an experienced policy advocate to serve as a Fellow/Senior Fellow with the education team, managing work on for-profit education and related issues of accountability, quality, and finance in higher education.

TCF’s Project on For-Profit Education pairs research that uncovers inappropriate or even predatory behavior for financial gain by colleges and career training groups with outreach and advocacy to stem the tide of predatory programs and preserve the promise of higher education.

The Fellow/Senior Fellow will engage in research and strategic advocacy on policies and oversight at the federal and state level, with possible connections to the work of accreditors and federal agencies. This position is a hybrid in-person/remote position based out of TCF’s Washington, D.C., or New York City office, and will require some travel.

Duties:

• Identifying and executing nonpartisan research and policy analysis projects.
• Writing reports and short-form commentary pieces.
• Submitting written and oral public comments and testimony regarding federal and state rulemaking and legislation.
• Monitoring policy developments at the federal and state level.
• Briefing policy makers, including federal and state officials.
• Leading, organizing, and/or presenting at coalition meetings, conferences, and other events.
• Identifying and managing work for policy associates, interns, contractors and/or grantees, when needed.
• Assisting in identifying and securing funders, partners, and collaborators.  This may include collaborating with TCF’s development team and team leadership to develop grant proposals and reports.
• Collaborating with TCF’s communications team to promote TCF’s work and to contribute to the public’s understanding of higher education accountability issues through interactions with media partners.

Requirements:

• Advanced degree (masters or doctorate) or demonstrated equivalent required.
• Experience in analyzing, developing, and promoting public policies relating to higher education, corporate accountability, workforce development, and/or consumer protection.
• Experience in advocacy, including experience in coalition-building and organizing.
• Exceptional research and analytical skills, both quantitative and qualitative.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills. Experience writing for public audiences preferred.
• Familiarity with state and federal governmental policy-making processes.
• A commitment to progressive values and interest in TCF’s education research agenda.
