This is a new and exciting role within our Heat Decarbonisation business area.

The decarbonisation of heat is a major challenge facing the UK (and beyond) in its transition to a net zero carbon economy. The delivery of low carbon heat has a great number of technological, infrastructure, economic, consumer and market barriers to overcome. Our heat team are supporting both public and private sectors to turn  these  challenges to decarbonise heat into opportunities.  In line with our continued growth, we are seeing an increased level of bidding across the team, and a need for a full time bid manager to work across the team. We are seeking to recruit an experienced bid manager accountable for the preparation of bids and working closely with our technical leads and wider team to ensure the quality of the tenders submitted.  The bid manager will ensure that bids are persuasive, in selling our value and uniqueness, responsive to the client’s requirements, and are coherent, robust and meet Ricardo’s financial criteria for revenue, labour sales and profit. The bid manager will work closely with appropriate technical leads to share responsibility for the bid.

The bid manager will be expected to lead by example by using bidding best practices.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the bid as a project, when appropriate working closely with the technical lead, and colleagues with commercial and financial responsibilities.
  • Liaise as necessary with senior managers to secure decisions on bid strategy.
  • With other key bid contributors, establish value proposition appropriate to the client and differentiators in response to competitive analysis of the opportunity, against client needs/required outcomes
  • Review and critique content as it is produced by the contributors. Ensure that the overall document is professionally presented and tells a consistent and clear story
  • Ensure that all relevant quality processes are followed and documented
  • Support capture planning, interview preparation and learning reviews as appropriate
  • Maintain and develop key bidding resources such as bidding templates and case studies especially for work streams with high levels of bidding
  • Familiarity with the centralised bidding material available

Key competencies and experience

  • Ideally Degree educated and/or APMP Practitioner.
  • Proven track record of successfully developing and delivering substantial or complex winning bids to time, quality and budget.
  • A background in solutions and services.
  • Fully conversant with the consulting marketplace.
