Responsibilities

Program/Department Overview

Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) seeks to develop and embody a suite of new, truly empowering models of partnership with local organizations worldwide. We aspire to be a partner of choice — for national and local government decision-makers to companies to community and Indigenous groups. This project will assess our partnership models, identify new and more flexible pathways, especially to support people and places in the Global South, and identify ways to test and implement our learnings on the ground. This intern would sit on a cross-team project that spans all of EDF’s Impact areas including People and Nature, Energy Transitions and Healthy Communities. Collectively these teams focus on stabilizing our climate and ensuring healthy, resilient communities. The intern would also interface with other teams including Science, Equity and Justice, EDF+Business and more. The intern will report to the Vice President of Climate Resilient Fisheries.

Overall Function

An intern will help conduct an internal review and external landscape analysis of common partnership models and approaches, drawing on experiences in the NGO field and beyond. They will also assist the project leads in conducting interviews with experts and consolidating and analyzing data. They will create an external survey to solicit feedback from past and current partners. They will also deliver a landscape analysis, intake summary document and provide recommendations on key considerations for EDF to ensure an inclusive and effective partnership model moving forward.

Key Responsibilities

Tasks will include but are not limited to:

  • Research on commonly used partnership models and emerging models for collaboration across the NGO, government and private sectors with particular attention to effective models with community groups, frontline communities and in the developing world.

  • Synthesize information into a clear concise report with recommendations for EDF.
  • Participate as a full member of the team, providing support on other research and analysis tasks as appropriate.
  • Participate in advancing EDF Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) goals in which people from all backgrounds and experiences feel connected, included, and empowered to address the environmental and organizational challenges in alignment with EDF values.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in/recent graduate of a master’s or doctorate degree program.
  • Demonstrated interest in equity and justice, international policy, environmental or social issues and/or organizational effectiveness.
  • Experience engaging with community organizations or partners.

  • Must be well organized, motivated, and detail-oriented.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize and meet deadlines.
