Internship / Fixed term for up to 6 months / Full Time (40 hours per week)

Location:  Based in the Netherlands. Candidates should be already living in the Netherlands and have a Dutch social security number (BSN), or should be able to be able to move and obtain work permit and BSN on short notice. We encourage applications from applicants from various backgrounds.

The Political, Business & Peace Unit of Greenpeace International is offering a paid internship for a student or recent graduate who wants to support our Global Climate Political work. We are looking for someone who is available to join us from 15 March, 2023, for a period of six months.

You will be working within a distributed team of experienced environmentalists and climate political professionals and will have the chance to develop and execute a jointly agreed project related to the climate political work of the organisation. Reporting to the Project Manager and the Senior Portfolio Manager on global climate politics, the work experience is primarily administrative/ logistical in nature, e.g., note-taking (in English); general meeting support; updating of documents and project plans; information management, synthesising and sharing, as well as a wide range of ad hoc requests, including research and analytical tasks on occasion. Excellent written and spoken English is a must.

It is a unique chance to learn about the functioning of an international campaigning organisation, to be exposed to and to participate in sophisticated geopolitical conversations and strategic planning, to gain deep knowledge of the politics of environmental problems and solutions and to experience teamwork at a global level.

Job requirements

Required skills and competencies:

  • A degree in International Relations, Political Science, or other relevant subject or equivalent experience (completed studies within the last twelve months)

  • Knowledge of/ experience in the area of International Climate Politics

  • Proficient in written and spoken English. Other languages are an advantage

  • IT proficiency: Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, etc.), Google mail and related applications, Zoom, etc.

  • Experience with the multilateral climate fora and processes desirable (i.e., UNFCCC)

  • Event management experience is a plus

  • Multicultural competence and understanding of and commitment to diversity

  • ‘Can do’, flexible approach, friendly and people-focused, even when working in a fast moving, sometimes chaotic environment

  • Comfortable with working remotely

  • Proactive, attention to detail

  • Efficient in producing clear meeting notes in English

  • Identification with Greenpeace goals and values

  • Ability to act with discretion, and respectful of confidentiality

The fine print:

  • An Internship is intended for students or recent graduates who have completed their studies within the last twelve months.

  • Interns are entitled to 800 euros net as a monthly stipend (40 hours per week).

  • The Greenpeace International office in Amsterdam is open and available for working. A combination of remote (within the Netherlands) and from the office work is possible and is the most common way of working.

  • If not otherwise present at the office, the candidate should be able to commute into our Amsterdam office when invited to do so for specific meetings or events. Travel outside of Amsterdam may also occasionally be requested, for which necessary costs will be covered.
