12 month fixed term contract / full time (with the possibility of extension to permanent contract, subject to local terms)

Location: The successful candidate may be based in a country where one of the independent National/Regional Greenpeace organisations (NRO’s) is located. See the locations here**.** [Please note that we are currently unable to host new staff in the US, Kenya, India, Turkey and a few more locations due to various restrictions]. Greenpeace International (GPI) is looking for a Campaign Operations Advisor (Security) to provide operational support and guidance, plus security-specific advice, across the areas of actions, investigations, mapping, science research, security and maritime operations.

You’ll be part of a multi-disciplinary team that provides guidance and support on all Greenpeace's operational matters – and lead on providing comprehensive security, safety and risk assessment advice to National/Regional Organisations (NROs) and GPI, ensuring that all necessary legal risk analysis, reputation, safety and security requirements are met in advance of all risk taking activities, in accordance with organisational policies.

In this role you will:

• Lead on provision of security advice for global projects to NROs.

• Lead on operational security and risk assessment, plus information security advice.

• Advise NROs/GPI on best practice security management, risk assessment and smart risk taking.

• Contribute to risk assessment, inquisition, sign-off and smart risk taking monitoring processes.

• Lead risk management support to external partners.

• Increase awareness and best practices about duty of care.

• Perform ad-hoc project task management of operations security freelancers and consultants.

• Liaise with the Capacity Development team to identify needs based on global programme priorities.

• Actively participate in the relevant global programme planning and design process to ensure effective inclusion of the operational security components.

• Participate in the GPI Critical Incident Management Team when required.

• Work with designated teams designing/delivering campaign strategies, and contribute strategic and operational expertise to ensure effective, ambitious inclusion of all components.

• Identify the support (HR, freelancers, equipment, budget) that NROs and GPI require to deliver projects with proper risk assessment and security management – taking action to ensure this support is available.

Job requirements

Remember no one has every skill or experience needed for this role and you’ll have the opportunity to learn a lot from the team. We believe someone who has a few of these is well suited to exceed in this role:

• Substantial experience as a senior action coordinator or security manager.

• Demonstrable commitment to non-violent direct action (NVDA) protest and environmental/peace issues.

• Experience and/or knowledge of the use of land/water/airborne (action) equipment.

• Experience and/or knowledge in the field of security management.

• Ability to work to very tight deadlines in a high pressure environment and to travel at short notice.

• Good interpersonal skills and experience operating within an international and multicultural environment.

• Project management and budget management skills.

• Fluency in written and spoken English.

• Willingness to travel for the role.
