GIS Analyst, Energy Access Explorer, Energy Program

**This position will be based in the WRI Office in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

About the Program:**

WRI’s vision is for clean energy to be available, affordable, and accessible for all the world’s people.  Our projects and partnerships make the demand for clean energy visible and actionable. We focus on: (1) mobilizing large energy users such as business and governments to purchase renewable electricity and pursue efficient, zero carbon buildings; (2) shifting and implementing new planning, policies and utility governance to speed deployment of clean and renewable electricity; and (3) improving energy access by identifying and matching unmet demand for energy services, including new finance and clean energy business models to improve development outcomes.

Job Highlight:

This position is a unique opportunity to learn from one of WRI’s high impact initiatives to improve how we create, publish, analyze, visualize, and share data to advance sustainable development. In this role you will work on developing further WRI’s data driven, integrated approach achieving energy access for equitable development, the Energy Access Explorer.

You will be supported by WRI’s cross geography Energy Access for Equitable Development initiative and work closely with the Energy Access Explorer team.

You will report to the Lead, Energy Access Explorer.

This will be a hybrid position based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

**What you will do:

**

Research & Knowledge (50%)

  • Collecting, harmonizing, processing, integrating geographic datasets and documenting their metadata in Energy Access Explorer
  • Building geospatial least-cost electrification models and conducting geospatial assessments to support the development of integrated energy plans at both national and subnational level
  • Coordinating the development and write up of audience specific knowledge products
  • Tracking and incorporating case studies and user stories in Energy Access Explorer.

Dissemination and Outreach (30%)

  • Engaging with local stakeholders (planning institutions, Clean Energy enterprises, development finance institutions, development organizations in the health, education, Agriculture sectors) across countries
  • Supporting the development of capacity buildingand training material on Energy Access Explorer and geospatial electrification assessments and participating in relevant training workshops
  • Supporting the preparation of outreach material
  • Organizing and participating in internal and external meetings, workshops, conferences, capacity building and other dissemination activities.

Administrative (20%)

  • Liaising with WRI colleagues across programs and countries
  • Supporting the development of project proposals

What you will need:

  • Education: You have a completed BSc or MSc Degree in Energy Engineering, Energy Economics, Development Economics or in a related area
  • Experience: You have 1+ years of relevant work experience in either the energy sector and/or the development space
  • Experience utilizing geospatial data and technology (such as QGIS or ArcGIS) and energy systems models/planning tools
  • Experience in conducting research
  • Experience in stakeholder engagement
  • Experience in communicating complex concepts via reports or presentations.
  • Languages: You have written and verbal proficiency in English
  • Requirements: Existing work authorization is required where this position is based. WRI is unable to authorize visa work authorization.

Start date: Upon mutual agreement with candidate – Expected February / March 2023

Type of Contract: limited term, renewable

Length of Contract: 1 year, renewable
