OVERALL FUNCTION
The Financial Analyst, Marketing and Communications is a key staff member in the operation of the budgetary and operational control systems for the Marketing and Communications (Marcomm) department. Reporting to the Senior Director, Operations and Finance, the Financial Analyst will serve as team support to Mission Finance staff within Enterprise Operations. This position will be responsible for helping to enter invoices for payment; systematically gathering, analyzing and reporting on income and expense data; working closely with staff to aid in the building, tracking and analyzing budgets and fund-raising proposals; and helping organize and present financial data for reporting and decision-making. Additionally, the Financial Analyst will be asked to pull together data from multiple sources, build spreadsheets, make charts, and help spot variances and issues in budget management, grant reporting and other program-wide issues and systems. They will work with staff across departments to ensure the timely and accurate execution of financial activities, including serving as a key resource in using financial systems to help with report generation.
The Financial Analyst will be a member of the Mission Finance team within the Enterprise Operations Department, partnering with other Mission Finance staff and staff of the Finance and Development Departments.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Execute day-to-day financial processes and support financial planning and reporting activities on behalf of relevant Mission Workstreams.
Submit and code program invoices, expense reports, cross-checking them against service agreements for submission for payment.
Facilitate contract preparation and communication with consultants.
Coordinate the review, approval, and submission process for new service and purchasing agreements.
Using accounting system data, assist with monthly Marcomm budget forecasting and produce monthly reports of actual vs. budget results; update projections; and investigate, analyze and explain variances from budget for income and expense line items.
Generate financial reports for mission teams.
Assist with other organizational and program-specific financial and operational processes, including resolving queries on accounts payable, reviewing and fixing coding issues (journal entries), and other matters.
Assist Mission Finance and Mission staff in the development of new budget proposals as they pertain to Marcomm work and initiatives.
Manage grants that support several mission-related workstreams, as needed.
Ensure proper set up of new grants in financial systems and monitor grant spending against budget; including drafting financial budgets and reports.
Perform ad-hoc financial analytics that support decision-making on strategic initiatives.
Participate in departmental meetings for the Enterprise Operations teams.
Participate in financial process improvement initiatives across the organization.
Participate in advancing EDF DEI goals in which people from all backgrounds and experiences feel connected, included, and empowered to address the environmental and organizational challenges in alignment with EDF values.
Additional relevant responsibilities as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree required, with a focus in business management, finance or accounting major preferred.
3 years of relevant experience in a business setting required. Additional experience in finance or accounting may be considered in lieu of a degree in business management, finance or accounting.
Finance or accounting experience in a non-profit organization is preferred.
Experience working with gifts from foundations and private donors is preferred.
Reporting experience with government grants is preferred.
Experience with forecasting, budgeting and reporting software (SAAS) is preferred.
Strong ability to work with financial data, spot trends, and ensure accuracy.
Advanced proficiency in MS Office Suite, particularly Excel, including the ability to understand and develop formulas, charts, and spreadsheets that clearly present data to facilitate decision-making by senior leadership.
Strong organization and analytical skills.
Ability to perform well in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities and under tight deadlines.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and diplomatic skills.
Demonstrated problem-solving skills, detail oriented, and self-motivated.
Ability to work independently and as a collaborative team member across departments and time zones.
