The Farm Manager will help lead the Aullwood farm in a wide variety of tasks and responsibilities including animal care, grounds and facilities care, and farm crop production. Includes supervision of part-time staff and volunteers in roles that support the farm and its work.
• Manage farm assistant staff, including hiring, firing, training, scheduling and evaluating their work
• Feed and water farm animals (horses, cows, pigs, chickens, etc)
• Turn out and bring in animals
• Work with veterinarian on animal care as needed
• Schedule and oversee animal breeding program
• Administer over-the-counter (OTC) medication under supervision of veterinarian or Executive Director
• Build partnerships with local food providers, farmers, farmers’ markets to continue to build market for Aullwood products
• Explore ways in which Aullwood might contribute to issues related to food accessibility in Dayton through partnerships such as Food Pillar in Partnerships for the Environment
• In collaboration with the Volunteer Manager, coordinate and oversee the work of farm volunteers and determine appropriate tasks
• Contribute to the generation of earned revenue through the sale of farm products, including hay, garden and meat products
• Maintain Aullwood’s bee hives and extracting honey for sale as needed
• Maintain Aullwood’s greenhouse, starting and caring for plants as needed
• Schedule animal slaughter and transport meat animals to and from slaughter/butcher
• Order and stock feed
• Ensure facility is well maintained and clean, including cleaning and bedding animal stalls daily
• Use tractor with attachments to perform various field and grounds maintenance
• Coordinate with other facilities team members to perform landscaping duties such as weed removal, planting, mowing, shoveling walks and driveways, bush hogging fields, fence repair, etc. Conduct routine trail maintenance.
• Cut, ted, rake and bale hay, turn compost, turn and spread mulch

• 5+ years experience with farm animals and farm equipment.
• Experience using farm equipment and attachments as well as power tools
• Knowledge of safety practices, precautions and occupational hazards
associated with farm animal work
• Demonstrated organizational and time-management skills.
• Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills that can be adapted to reach a wide range of individuals. Exceptional listening skills and the ability address visitor needs accordingly.
• Ability to think strategically and creatively, while managing multiple tasks, meeting deadlines and operating in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
• Willingness to work flexible hours when needed, including weekends and evenings.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license.
• Ability to lift up to 80 lbs with or without accommodation.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and other web-based technology.
• Knowledge and commitment to conservation of birds and other wildlife and their habitats.
