Factory Liaison Engineer - Electrical

🇨🇦 Welland, Ontario L3B 5N4, CA 📝 FULL-TIME

This role supports the INNIO Waukesha Engineering team in a Product Support and Factory Liaison Engineering role for reciprocating engines and packaged generator sets.  This position will work in a global engineering team to deliver product solutions for our customers by providing product engineering support, participating in new product introductions, representing the global engineering teams at the factory, and implementing new processes and tools. In this position the person utilizes their system integration, engineering design, communication, and problem-solving skills to resolve technical issues and serves as an engineering point of contact for the factory.

**Essential Responsibilities:
**

  • Serve as the primary engineering interface between the factory and global Centers of Excellence.
  • Solve technical issues by providing rapid response to manufacturing engineers and production team.
  • Provide technical input to new supplier development and component quality projects, supporting validation tests for key engine or genset components as required.
  • Solve product reliability issues by leading root cause analysis, defining both short-term and long-term corrective actions.
  • Create and review engineering change requests for product improvements or cost reductions and provide guidance to the associated design activities.
  • Participate in project technical design reviews for new product development projects, provide input regarding current product issues and production capabilities to the project team, and support new product launch, custom sales order projects, and engineering change implementation.
  • Support development of processes and digital collaboration for the factory working with remote engineering teams.
  • Work closely with technical and cross-functional personnel to develop and document technical quality processes.
  • Demonstrate professional characteristics necessary for working in and leading global teams such as task definition, team building, mentoring and training both local and remote colleagues, collaborative interpersonal skills, and effective communication.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 6 months of engineering experience in the following areas:

    • Industrial engines, generator sets, control panels and/or switchgear
    • Knowledge of manufacturing, quality, and/or assembly processes and experience working with the associated functional organizations
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from an accredited Technical College or University

  • Experience working with electrical schematics using an electrical design tool (AutoCAD)

  • Experience with routing, support, and connection of electrical wire harnesses on industrial machines

  • Demonstrated proficiency utilizing electrical engineering skills to analyze technical requirements and applying appropriate skill set to design and develop components and assemblies and ensure these components are producing the desired engine attributes

  • Experience working with fabrications, sheet metal components, junction boxes, panels, HMI’s, PLC’s, sensors, circuit breakers, transformers, load banks, generators, electrical wiring and harnesses, and electrical schematics

  • Create automated test cell script files for generator set parameters and transient load step sequences

  • Provide training to assembly and test team members as needed

  • Proficiency in managing technical and organizational assignments

  • Ability to perform appropriate engineering calculations to solve technical issues

  • Demonstrated problem solving skills including DMAIC principals

  • Communication and interpersonal skills required to function effectively with engineering and production teams

  • Oracle/SAP Business system experience

  • Must embrace continuous improvement and have a strong desire to learn
