About the opportunity

SWCA Environmental Consultants is expanding our NEPA Planning Division and actively looking for dynamic individuals who are following their passion in delivering the highest-quality project work on a national level.

We are considering candidates for a range of positions, based on relevant experience:

Assistant Project Environmental Planner-3 years of experience

Associate Project Environmental Planner-5 years of experience

Project Environmental Planner-7 years of experience

Individuals need to be willing and able to work with peers across all SWCA offices, nationwide, and accomplish tasks associated with a variety of projects in any given week. The ability to work directly with clients is imperative. The interest in pursuing new business is also desirable.

This is a permanent full-time, regular status position. Candidate will be remote based and report to an office in close proximity.

What you will accomplish

  • Demonstrates technical proficiency in an area of specialization, while demonstrating broad
    understanding across multiple resource areas
  • Leads small, routine projects, processes, or deliverables from start to finish with oversight (may serve as
    Deputy PM)
  • Independently performs, or executes through others, routine technical tasks
  • Modifies approach to meet regulatory requirements and client objectives approach to meet regulatory requirements and client objectives
  • Adapts strategy to meet shifting project needs, regulatory requirements, and client objectives
  • Performs data QA/QC, tracking, synthesis, and analysis
  • Conducts research to support novel problem-solving
  • Crafts draft impact assessments, management recommendations, or mitigation measures
  • Performs frontline technical QA/QC of deliverables and coordinates the QA/QC process
  • Prepares scopes and budgets for routine projects
  • Interfaces with clients and regulators, with supervision
  • Contributes to technical standards for office
  • Facilitates internal meetings under direction
  • Develops public involvement strategy and drafts scoping and public involvement reports for routine projects, under direction
  • May supervise employees; trains others to complete tasks
  • Complies with the safety plan

Experience and qualifications for success

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Progressive experience in an environmental permitting/natural resources role.
  • Experience or exposure to NEPA project development.
  • Experience working on multi-disciplinary projects.
  • Prior experience participating in or leading meetings with clients and agencies.
  • Exposure to project budgets and delivery schedules.
  • Participation on or directing project teams including subcontractors; preparing or directing staff in the preparation of technical studies and NEPA permitting documents.
  • A working knowledge of federal and state environmental regulations including National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and /or the Federal Land Policy and Management Act (FLPMA), the Clean Water Act (CWA), the Endangered Species Act (ESA), the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA), Secretarial Order 3355.

_An employee in an Environmental Project Level Planning position can expect a salary of $55,120-$109,824._Actual pay within this range may depend on experience, qualifications, geographic location, client requirements where applicable, and other factors permitted by law.  Regular-status employees are also eligible for performance bonuses.
