Responsibilities

Program/Department Overview

The Economics Team ensures that environmental policy advanced by EDF is underpinned by sound economic thinking. Within the organization, the Economics Team works across all of EDF’s workstreams providing thought leadership and economic analysis. Outside the organization, the team maintains relationships with leading environmental economists and key stakeholders (including policymakers) to ensure that the best available knowledge is used to advance EDF policy.

Overall Function

The Intern will be a key member of the Economics Team and will report to the Economics & Policy Analyst. The Intern's primary role will be to support EDF's cross-programmatic goal of reducing emissions from the oil and gas industry, with a particular focus on methane emissions. Specific tasks in this role will vary but will focus on performing data-driven analyses and drafting research memos on relevant policy developments.

Key Responsibilities

Tasks will include but are not limited to:

  • Perform timely in-house analyses for staff on the Economics Team relating to economics, emissions data, and/or climate and energy policy.
  • Compile and analyze data, and summarize key findings to Analysts and Managers.
  • Draft research reports on various climate and energy policy topics with a particular focus on methane emissions reductions from the oil and gas industry.
  • Apply excellent organizational, communication, and planning skills in preparing correspondence and reports and collaborating with staff on the Economics Team.
  • Participate in advancing EDF Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) goals in which people from all backgrounds and experiences feel connected, included, and empowered to address the environmental and organizational challenges in alignment with EDF values.

Qualifications

  • Enrolled in an undergraduate program with a demonstrated interest in economics and/or environmental policy. Coursework in economics is preferred.
  • Excellent research and analytical skills. Experience with quantitative analytical tools is preferred (e.g. Excel, R, Stata, etc.).
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a team setting and independently when projects are due.
  • Must be well organized, motivated, and detail-oriented.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrate self-awareness, cultural competency and inclusivity, and ability to work with colleagues and stakeholders across diverse cultures and backgrounds.
  • Demonstrate initiative and problem-solving skills.

Hybrid out of Washington, DC or U.S. Remote

12 Weeks (June-August)

Hours

Full Time (35 hr/week)

Compensation

This internship would involve compensation for work paid at a rate competitive with leading non-profits at $17/hr.
