ABOUT US

Nonviolent Peaceforce (NP) is a dynamic, international non-governmental organization. We work to reduce violence and protect civilians in countries affected by violent conflict and its aftermath through the implementation of unarmed civilian protection programming. NP implements programming through the deployment of civilian protection teams to the field and is continuing to scale up to meet the growing needs in the communities we serve. Programming is founded on unarmed civilian protection and is thematically focused on protection in displacement, child protection, gender-based violence protection, and inter-communal violence reduction.

JOB PURPOSE

The driver is a member of the Operations Team responsible for providing transport and logistics assistance to the mission under the direction of the Operations Manager, fleet officer, and Team Leader. This includes transporting team members to meetings and other activities. It also involves providing assistance with the procurement and delivery of goods for the team of NP as well as any other activities relevant to the role.

KEY OBJECTIVES/RESPONSIBILITIES

Transport

  • Transport members of the Zummar -based programme implementation team to meetings and other events both in office as well as to field sites within Iraq, informing line manager of any delays or concerns
  • Follow NP safety and security guidelines for drivers
  • Keep passengers and pedestrians safe. Follow all rules of the road, and drive at a responsible speed
  • Keep the vehicle in good condition, cleaning it weekly
  • Maintain fuel levels in the vehicle (above half-full)
  • Report any problems and perform daily service checks
  • Perform daily and weekly vehicle inspections
  • Ensure movement records are maintained through the use of the logbook

Procurement

  • Assist the team with procuring supplies and undertaking collection/delivery as directed

Other

  • Participate in team meetings concerning security and general community updates
  • Perform any other work duties assigned by the Team leader

QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES:

Education, Knowledge, and Experience

  • Strong commitment to safety and security
  • Commitment to Nonviolent Peaceforce’s nonpartisan approach to working in Iraq
  • Experience as a driver for an NGO is highly desired, but not required

Skills

Independent Judgment/Analytical:

  • Ability to manage information with confidentiality
  • Ability to set priorities, and creatively solve problems

Interpersonal:

  • Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment
  • Proven ability to build relationships

Languages:

Ability to confidently and respectfully interact with colleagues, security actors, and community members

Vehicle Maintenance:

  • Basic in-field emergency maintenance of vehicles

Other Specialized Requirements

  • A full, Valid Driver’s License is required.
