The Role: Director, Purchasing and Logistics

Svante is a rapidly growing clean energy technology company making commercial-scale carbon capture and removal a reality, enabling global industries to play offense in the fight against climate change. We are looking for a committed individual to join us in the role of Director, Purchasing and Logistics.

The Director will be a key player in Svante’s journey to full commercialization. This person will be a member of Svante’s Global Supply Chain and Operations team but will work broadly with various departments within Svante including, Manufacturing, Product Development, Facilities, Quality, Finance and other Svante departments as required. The primary role of the Director is overseeing all of the company’s purchases of goods and services, as well as looking after the movement of inbound and outbound materials.

Svante is implementing a suite of manufacturing software, the cornerstone of which is Manufacturing Requirements Planning (MRP). The Director will be closely involved with the MRP system, joining a small team responsible for the performance and use of MRP, building out capabilities and driving internal efficiency for the procurement of manufacturing materials.

Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities:

  • Member of the Global Supply Chain and Operations team.
  • Developing, implementing, and executing Svante’s purchasing strategies.
  • Building a global network of suppliers capable of supporting Svante’s commercialization journey.
  • Ensuring that all materials needed for production are available when needed.
  • Managing the company inventories.
  • Working with Svante’s Finance team, undertaking continuous improvement of the company’s order-to-pay processes.
  • Implementing key metrics to monitor and improve effectiveness of Svante’s procurement and logistics activities.
  • Negotiating key contracts and long-term supply agreements for goods and services.
  • Partnering with internal stakeholders to successfully execute purchasing and logistics activities.
  • Performing cost analyses of key materials.
  • Developing short and long-term forecasts of material needs, communicating these internally and externally.
  • Working with Enterprise Quality in the implementation of a Supplier Quality Management system.
  • Developing partnerships with logistics providers to successfully execute the movement of goods, both local, regional, and global· Assisting in the preparation of monthly management reports.
  • Carrying out other related tasks and projects as required.
  • Implementing sustainable practices in purchasing and logistics.

Key Qualifications (knowledge, skills and abilities):

  • Passionate about addressing climate change in a meaningful way.

  • Relevant university degree with a post-secondary purchasing / logistics designation an asset.
  • Minimum ten years of relevant job experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Accomplished self-starter with exceptional interpersonal skills.
  • Strong communicator with an ability to use an appropriate assortment of verbal, written and presentation strategies.
  • Proven ability to work well with cross-functional teams and diverse groups of stakeholders.
  • Adaptable to change.
  • Ability to develop and deliver presentations.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • High level of initiative.
  • Good time management, with ability to organize, prioritize and meet deadlines.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Strong customer service skills, including ability to build credibility and trust.
  • Excellent listening skills.
  • Excellent analytical skills with ability to make sound recommendations.
  • Aptitude for data visualization, report building, and data-driven storytelling.
  • Experience with Microsoft Power BI an asset.
  • Ability to think strategically.
  • Results oriented.
  • Proven ability of working collaboratively with leaders and influencing change.
