ABOUT THE ROLE

As the Director of Risk Management you will bring your experience and expertise to oversee a comprehensive set of risks that include portfolio risk, regulatory risk, reputational risk, counterparty risk and credit risk.
This role will report to the COO and will work closely with Business Unit leads, the CEO, the CFO, and the Board to establish the level of risk the company is willing to take, and develop associated policies. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams across various time zones, so the role may be situated in a remote office, preferably anywhere in the United States. However, for a well-suited candidate, we are open to individuals in European and APAC countries.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Develop, update and oversee compliance with the company’s risk policy and manage the functions of the Risk Management Committee (RMC)
- Actively review and propose trading and credit limits and restrictions thereto
- Communicate risk policies and processes throughout the Company and, as applicable, interact with the Board of Directors
- Conduct hands-on development of risk models involving market, credit and operational risk
- Ensure controls are operating effectively and provide research and analytical support
- Perform VaR analysis for the entire 3Degrees portfolio
- Design and implement an overall risk management process for the organization, including a detailed analysis of the financial impact on the company when risks occur
- Analyze current risks and identify potential risks that may affect the company
- Evaluate the company’s previous handling of risks and compare potential risks with criteria set out by the company (e.g., costs and legal requirements)
- Prepare risk management and insurance budgets
- Conduct risk reporting tailored to the relevant audience (educating the C-Suite and board of directors about the most significant risks to the business; ensuring business heads understand the risks that might affect their departments; ensuring individuals understand their own accountability for individual risks)
- Work with business unit leads to create business continuity plans to limit risks
- Conduct policy and compliance audits, including, liaising with internal and external auditors
- Review any new major contracts or internal business proposals
- Build risk awareness amongst staff by providing support and training within the company

- Experience with Risk Management (preferred experience in trading of commodities and/or financial securities) at a senior and/or executive level
- Experience with trading of commodities and/or financial instruments; environmental commodities a plus
- Possess excellent quantitative and analytical skills, along with the ability to apply those skills across a variety of business processes
- Degree in Management or Business Studies, Finance or Economics, Science, Statistics, Engineering or Law

- Developed a deep understanding of the company structure, products, and risk policies and has a deep appreciation for the unique risk profile of the company
Within 60 days
- Completed a risk analysis of the portfolio, identified key risks and gaps and developed a plan for addressing them
- Has communicated key elements of the risk mitigation plan to senior leadership and developed an implementation plan
Within 90 days
- Has taken point on all risk management issues within 3Degrees
