Position Summary

PolicyLink is searching for a Director of Institutional Giving to own our institutional portfolio and lead a critical arm of the development team at PolicyLink. As a leader on our development team, the Director of Institutional Giving will advance an institutional giving strategy that will grow our foundation and corporate revenue, while expanding the partnerships required to achieve our programmatic goals. The Director of Institutional Giving will partner closely with the Chief Advancement Officer (CAO) and the Director of Donor Engagement on fundraising strategies and to sustain our annual giving.

This is a unique opportunity to co-lead the development team of a well-established organization taking on an ambitious campaign. This role is perfect for individuals who are passionate about equity and are creative in their approach to institutional fundraising.

Core Responsibilities

  • Lead grant management, including grant-writing and reporting, data tracking, and prospecting.
  • Collaborate with program and operations leadership to build compelling grant proposals, deliver timely funding reports, and identify new opportunities for engaging our institutional partners.
  • Partner with the CAO and CEO to lead cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of an existing portfolio of major corporate and foundation partners.
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive institutional giving strategy that grows foundation revenue by at least 5 percent annually (approximately $1.5M/ year) by 2024 and advances our fundraising and programmatic goals.
  • Identify, qualify, and cultivate new relationships with institutional funders that align with PolicyLink programmatic areas, growth plans and core values, and have the capacity to make 6 to 7-figure gifts.
  • In partnership with the Director of Donor Engagement, Chief Advancement Officer, and Chief Executive Officer, strategize and implement fundraising strategies for the Capital Campaign.

Desired Qualifications and Experience

Demonstrated experience in crafting winning grant proposals, reports, and other funding-related communications.
  • A genuine commitment to equity.
  • Demonstrated ability in partnering with external stakeholders and engaging them in meaningful ways. Ability to “manage up, down, and across” to utilize staff time effectively in order to achieve goals.
  • Ability and confidence to represent the organization in meetings with funders and experience in preparing leadership (e.g. executive-level staff and board members) for high-stakes funding opportunities.
  • Solid organizational and project management skills, including the ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects and competing deadlines while maintaining an eagle-eye attention to detail.
  • Resourcefulness and a “get it done” attitude, with the ability to drive innovation, change, growth, and maintain a high degree of flexibility and creativity in a dynamic environment.
  • Track record of building authentic partnerships that demonstrate respect, empathy, and connection. Strong communicator with the ability to inspire a variety of audiences and articulate the importance of an organization’s work in a concise and compelling manner.
  • Experience with managing data in Salesforce or comparable CRM.
  • The ability to thrive in a collaborative and relationship-driven work culture, demonstrating personal qualities of empathy, openness, and authenticity.
