Position Description
The Island School is seeking a Director of Communications & Marketing to lead a strategic communications and marketing program for The Island School. The successful candidate will have prior experience in Communications and Marketing, preferably in the nonprofit and educational sector, with the ability to think strategically, while also managing the breadth of demands needed in a successful communication program. Strong project management and leadership skills to aid with the organization and prioritization of the wide range of requests and needs from The Island School, inclusive of the Cape Eleuthera Foundation, are a must. This will include, but is not limited to, facilitating day to day social media strategy and online presence, event photography, supporting fundraising needs and projects, maintaining project and task schedules, assisting in the maintenance of online presence, as well as, delivering major design projects. The successful candidate will lead and mentor the Communications team through regular performance evaluations and facilitate the recruitment of new staff and interns. This role will demand continued development of the existing communication and marketing plan and expansion of the breadth and diversity of our media relations and outlets.
The Director of Communications and Marketing reports to the Head of School and is a member of the senior leadership team.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
This is an overview of the position, but responsibilities are not limited to the below:
Effectively tell The Island School story on a local, national and global level
Create and implement a comprehensive marketing and communications strategy to strengthen the brand and establish organization and consistency
Act as chief editor for all outgoing materials to ensure accurate brand representation, professionalism, institutional voice, and editorial precision
Continue to build upon the international brand awareness of The Island School and Cape Eleuthera Foundation
Manage the Communications team of 2-4 staff and interns
Develop and track metrics to assess and evaluate effectiveness of communication strategy
Maintain and build relationships with media outlets within The Bahamas, the United States, and internationally
Assist with crisis response and incident management and lead crisis response communications on behalf of The Island School and Cape Eleuthera Foundation
Manage the communications budget with regard for annual demands as well as capital cost associated with equipment.
Oversee brand management for both The Island School and Cape Eleuthera Foundation, and effectively communicate the relationship of both organizations to strengthen connections
Manage and prioritize the timely execution of marketing and communication requests from across the organization(s)
Collaborate with program leaders to support their admission cycle from inquiry through enrollment including marketing, application & admission and enrollment forms
Oversee the digital presence of The Island School including the website, blog and social media.
Collaborate with internal and external partners on the development and promotion of the The Island School school store
Work closely with the Cape Eleuthera Foundation to develop and plan communications materials in support of fundraising initiatives, stewardship and grant/donor reporting.
Develop campaign materials, communication strategies and engagement plans to meet fundraising goals
Work with Alumni and Development to support alumni engagement initiatives through online resources including website, social media and email marketing, and event promotion
Oversee the Cape Eleuthera Foundation website and digital presence

Compensation & Benefits
Schedule
This is a full-time position with annual review. The Cape Eleuthera Island School and its related entities operate year round and working hours vary depending on needs but are typically Monday-Friday (40 hours/week), however, evening and weekend work will be required. Special events will require periods of time outside of normal working hours when staff must be on site for extended periods. The successful candidate should expect, and desire to work a variable and mission driven schedule.
