Outright is currently searching for a Director of Marketing and Communications. The ideal candidate will be located in time zones GMT-6 to GMT+3.
Please note any candidates based in New York may be required to work a hybrid office schedule.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Marketing and Communications will be responsible for leading the communications strategy, which will proactively advance Outright’s policy agenda, brand and public profile. The Director of Marketing and Communications will be a person who has a depth of understanding of the rapidly changing means in which content is delivered and consumed. The Director of Marketing and Communications will provide leadership to communication staff and will work closely with other internal and external stakeholders and consultants to enhance Outright’s visibility and brand. Primary responsibilities:
- Strategically identify, plan and apply traditional and new media channels for sharing Outright’s mission, goals, programs, and expertise; lead the development and implementation of strategies to utilize media for effective communication.
- Lead all strategic messaging about Outright’s mission, programs, activities, and results; supervise the content development, writing, editing, and production of publications, including press releases, op-ed pieces, newsletters, annual report and web publishing.
- Plan, oversee and evaluate digital first marketing campaigns and content marketing to promote Outright’s brand and content
- Use data and analytics to measure the effectiveness of marketing campaigns and make data-driven improvements.
- Oversee the enhancement of the design and functionality of Outright’s website and web tools and related digital infrastructure and work collaboratively with program staff to shape communications pieces and other materials and to conceptualize and implement systems for externally sharing knowledge and lessons learned.
- Develop Outright’s public messaging on LGBTIQ rights and represent the organization to the media, in public forums, and in online communication.
- Initiate, maintain relationships with, and respond to requests from key media outlets and develop Outright’s reputation and credibility as a media resource among key local, national, and international media.
- Participate actively as a member of Outright’s senior management team, representing the communications functions of the organization.
- Supervise and manage staff including media relations, digital and creative functions.
- Serve as an organizational spokesperson, including in engagements with government officials, UN agencies, media and the public.
QUALIFICATIONS
- A significant level of demonstrated leadership experience (at least 8 years) in communications, public relations, marketing and/or brand management.
- Proven experience in a senior marketing role with a track record of successfully developing and executing marketing strategies.
- A strong background building and working with social media, web development and other network models, web-based publications, social media marketing platforms and other tools to support organization communications.
- Ability to represent an organization before many audiences globally and in a wide range of situations.
- An ability to perform effectively under pressure and to utilize strong organizational skills when faced with multiple time-sensitive priorities.
- Superb writing and editing skills and strong interpersonal and professional communication skills in English and, if possible, at least one other language.
- Experience working internationally or on global issues is desirable.
- Passionate commitment to Outright’s mission, with a feminist and intersectional analysis.
- Excellent political judgement to accurately represent Outright’s points of view
- Demonstrated success in collaborative work relationship building with diverse stakeholders and a strong track record as a supervisor.
- Commitment to the on-going study of political change, cultural norms and movement building.
