About the Program:
The Managing for Results (MfR) team ensures WRI is equipped to understand if its work is contributing to the longer-term positive changes WRI intends to make in the world and fosters a culture of learning and accountability. The MfR team is an institutional resource, ensuring that WRI’s programmatic teams are meeting internal and external standards for good practices in planning, monitoring, evaluation, and learning (PMEL).
Over the next 5 years MfR will accelerate a “step change” in PMEL practices and culture at WRI to enhance programmatic effectiveness and demonstrate impact. The specific goals of the step change in PMEL are to have:
- Robust, evidence- based theories (ToC) of change for programs and projects that are easily accessible for staff and partners to facilitate shared understanding and learnings
- Intentional pause and reflect cycles to review ToCs and M&E data, discuss the learnings and changes needed to achieve the results in the strategic plan
- Sufficient PMEL specialist capacity in every WRI team to support timely, evidence-based, adaptive management
- WRI results that are easily verifiable, where contribution is well understood and WRI’s commitment to address social inequalities is reflected in the results
- Iterative cycles of evaluation that support ongoing reflection and learning, systemization and publication of lessons learned
Job Highlight:
In this role you will help determine how WRI aggregates results and related indicators in our two systems (DevResults and Interactive theory of Change) and communicates results for institutional reporting, including using PowerBI for data visualizations. You will manage innovative, complex work flows and reporting requirements that require testing and iterative improvements to drive learning.
The Data Systems & Reporting Manager’s immediate team will consist of the Managing for Results team and Research, Data, and Innovation team, but you will work with colleagues across the Institute. You will report to the Director of Managing for Results.
What you will do:
Data Systems Management (45%)
- Responsible for overall functioning of the main systems that the MfR team manages and helps ensure that they reliably report information in a timely way, and able to meet the varied demands of senior management, donors, board and other key stakeholders
- Works with the MfR team to implement regular updating protocols of user data related to strategy, research and results framework information in the Interactive Theory of Change site
- Thought leader in quality reporting through our software systems, maintains the data connection between the M&E system (DevResults) and the Interactive ToC dataverse (Sharepoint) and manages the technical issues with WRI’s M&E system (DevResults), works with vendor to resolve technical issues and tickets
- Manages the improvements to the Interactive Theory of Change site, including managing developer teams, as needed, maintains Interactive Theory of Change site, running system diagnostics and checks to ensure all links are working properly as well as testing user experience and proactively soliciting user feedback to inform upgrading of the site, ensuring appropriate user access and regular updating processes
Data Reporting and Visualization (45%)
- Design PowerBI dashboards with MfR and other users to ensure that data visualizations provide timely information that meets user’s needs, ensure connections are functioning correctly and able to meet changing requests/ requirements of users (including internal and external users) and prepares bespoke data visualizations for key forums where WRI’s M&E data will be shared (internally and externally)
- Data analysis and synthesizing the information to ensure that WRI learns from the M&E data and can share the learnings more broadly through compelling visualizations and reports
- Responsible for compiling semi- annual and annual M&E data for core donor reporting, WRI’s Board and the Global Executive Team and creating compelling, easy to understand dashboards in PowerBI in addition to the paper-based reporting requirements
- Responsible for International Aid Transparency Initiative (IATI) reporting for WRI’s Strategic Plan, and providing teams with internal technical assistance compiling project-level IATI reports
PMEL Technical Support (10%)
- Thought leader on data visualization and reporting, make recommendations for improvements
- Provides PMEL technical support to WRI teams, as assigned
- Provide support and inputs for large, programmatic evaluations, as needed
- Other tasks as needed
What you will need:
- Education: You have an undergraduate degree required; Master’s degree preferred (g. statistics, economics, software engineering, etc.)
- Experience: You have a minimum of 3+years full-time relevant work experience.
- Past experience with donor reporting (in MS Word) and visual report building, development of dashboards, and wrangling complex and large data sets to create compelling data visualizations, including making them accessible for others, including in PowerBI
- Experience communicating results concisely and clearly in PowerBI, PowerPoint presentations, large & complex reports in MS Word
- Experience managing several projects at different stages simultaneously, a high influx of information, tracking details and effectively communicating progress with colleagues
- Past experience with strategy design, theory of change, results frameworks, monitoring, evaluation and learning tools for effective project design, management and reporting
- Experience making decisions, justifying recommendations and being responsive and clear with colleagues and partners about the decisions and resolving problems efficiently and communicating effectively the solution(s) in a large organization
- Prior experience with International Aid Transparency Initiative (IATI), DevResults, VISIO, MIRO, or PowerApps preferred, but not required
- Fluency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, PowerBI, and Sharepoint
- Languages: Professional fluency in English required and additional fluency on a language spoken in WRI Offices preferred (g. Spanish, French, Portuguese, Chinese)
- Requirements: Existing work authorization is required where this position is based. WRI is unable to authorize visa work authorization.
